‘Break-a-Leg’ (that old Mafia warning) – Trump has threatened Iran over an ultimatum that likely cannot be met

Alastair Crooke

April 7, 2025

What is understood now is that ‘we’re no longer playing chess’. There are no rules anymore.

Trump’s ultimatum to Iran? Colonel Doug Macgregor compares the Trump ultimatum to Iran to that which Austria-Hungary delivered to Serbia in 1914: An offer, in short, that ‘could not be refused’. Serbia accepted nine out of the ten demands. But it refused one – and Austria-Hungary immediately declared war.

On 4 February, shortly after his Inauguration, President Trump signed a National Security Presidential Memorandum (NSPM); that is to say, a legally binding directive requiring government agencies to carry out the specified actions precisely.

The demands are that Iran should be denied a nuclear weapon; denied inter-continental missiles, and denied too other asymmetric and conventional weapons capabilities. All these demands go beyond the NPT and the existing JCPOA. To this end, the NSPM directs maximum economic pressure be imposed; that the U.S. Treasury act to drive Iran’s oil exports to zero; that the U.S. work to trigger JCPOA Snapback of sanctions; and that Iran’s “malign influence abroad” – its “proxies” – be neutralised.

The UN sanctions snapback expires in October, so time is short to fulfil the procedural requirements to Snapback. All this suggests why Trump and Israeli officials give Spring as the deadline to a negotiated agreement.

Trump’s ultimatum to Iran appears to be moving the U.S. down a path to where war is the only outcome, as occurred in 1914 – an outcome which ultimately triggered WW1.

Might this just be Trump bluster? Possibly, but it does sound as if Trump is issuing legally binding demands such that he must expect cannot be met. Acceptance of Trump’s demands would leave Iran neutered and stripped of its sovereignty, at the very least. There is an implicit ‘tone’ to these demands too, that is one of threatening and expecting regime change in Iran as its outcome.

It may be Trump bluster, but the President has ‘form’ (past convictions) on this issue. He has unabashedly hewed to the Netanyahu line on Iran that the JCPOA (or any deal with Iran) was ‘bad’. In May 2014, Trump withdrew the U.S. from the JCPOA at Netanyahu’s behest and instead issued a new set of 12 demands to Iran – including permanently and verifiably abandoning its nuclear programme in perpetuity and ceasing all uranium enrichment.

What is the difference between those earlier Trump demands and those of this February? Essentially they are the same, except today he says: If Iran “doesn’t make a deal, there will be bombing. It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before”.

Thus, there is both history, and the fact that Trump is surrounded – on this issue at least – by a hostile cabal of Israeli Firsters and Super Hawks. Witkoff is there, but is poorly grounded on the issues. Trump too, has shown himself virtually totalitarian in terms of any and all criticism of Israel in American Academia. And in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria, he is fully supportive of Netanyahu’s far-right provocative and expansionist agenda.

These present demands regarding Iran also run counter to the 25 March 2025 latest annual U.S. Intelligence Threat Assessment that Iran is NOT building a nuclear weapon. This Intelligence Assessment is effectively disregarded. A few days before its release, Trump’s National Security Adviser, Mike Waltz clearly stated that the Trump Administration is seeking the “full dismantlement” of Iran's nuclear energy program: “Iran has to give up its program in a way that the entire world can see”, Waltz said. “It is time for Iran to walk away completely from its desire to have a nuclear weapon”.

On the one hand, it seems that behind these ultimata stands a President made “pissed off and angry” at his inability to end the Ukraine war almost immediately – as he first mooted – together with pressures from a bitterly fractured Israel and a volatile Netanyahu to compress the timeline for the speedy ‘finishing off’ of the Iranian ‘regime’ (which, it is claimed, has never been weaker). All so that Israel can normalise with Lebanon –and even Syria. And with Iran supposedly ‘disabled’, pursue implementation of the Greater Israel project to be normalised across the Middle East.

Which, on the other hand, will enable Trump to pursue the ‘long-overdue’ grand pivot to China. (And China is energy-vulnerable – regime change in Tehran would be a calamity, from the Chinese perspective).

To be plain, Trump’s China strategy needs to be in place too, in order to advance Trump’s financial system re-balancing plans. For, should China feel itself besieged, it could well act as a spoiler to Trump's re-working of the American and global financial system.

The Washington Post reports on a ‘secret’ Pentagon memo from Hegseth that “China [now] is the Department’s sole pacing threat, [together] with denial of a Chinese fait accompli seizure of Taiwan — while simultaneously defending the U.S. homeland”.

The ‘force planning construct’ (a concept of how the Pentagon will build and resource the armed services to take on perceived threats) will only consider conflict with Beijing when planning contingencies for a major power war, the Pentagon memo says, leaving the threat from Moscow largely to be attended by European allies.

Trump wants to be powerful enough credibly to threaten China militarily, and therefore wants Putin to agree speedily to a ceasefire in Ukraine, so that military resources can quickly be moved to the China theatre.

On his flight back to Washington last Sunday evening, Trump reiterated his annoyance toward Putin, but added “I don’t think he’s going to go back on his word, I’ve known him for a long time. We’ve always gotten along well”. Asked when he wanted Russia to agree to a ceasefire, Trump said there was a “psychological deadline” – “If I think they’re tapping us along, I will not be happy about it”.

Trump’s venting against Russia may, perhaps, have an element of reality-TV to it. For his domestic audience, he needs to be perceived as bringing ‘peace through strength’ – to keep up the Alpha-Male appearance, lest the truth of his lack of leverage over Putin becomes all too apparent for the American public and to the world.

Part of the reason for Trump’s frustration too, may be his cultural formation as a New York businessman; that a deal is about first dominating the negotiations, and then quickly ‘splitting the difference’. This, however, is not how diplomacy works. The transactional approach also reflects deep conceptual flaws.

The Ukraine ceasefire process is stalled, not because of Russian intransigence, but rather because Team Trump has determined that achieving a settlement in Ukraine comes firstly through insisting on a unilateral and immediate ceasefire – without introducing temporary governance to enable elections in Ukraine, nor addressing the root causes of the conflict. And secondly, because Trump rushed in, without listening to what the Russians were saying, and/or without hearing it.

Now that initial pleasantries are over, and Russia is saying flatly that current ‘ceasefire’ proposals simply are inadequate and unacceptable, Trump becomes angry and lashes out at Putin, saying that 25% tariffs on Russian oil could happen ANY moment.

Putin and Iran are both now under ‘deadlines’ (a ‘psychological’ one in Putin’s case), so as to enable Trump to proceed with credibly threatening China to come to a ‘deal’ soon – as the global economy is already wobbling.

Trump fumes and spits fire. He tries to hurry matters along by making a big show of bombing the Houthis, boasting that they have been hit hard, with many Houthi leaders killed. Yet, such callousness towards Yemeni civilian deaths sits awkwardly with his claimed heart-rendering empathy for the thousands of ‘handsome’ Ukrainian young men needlessly dying on the front lines.

It all becomes reality-TV.

Trump threatens Iran with “bombing [the] likes of which they have never seen before” over an ultimatum that likely cannot be met. Simply put, this threat (which includes the possible use of nuclear weapons) is not given because Iran poses a threat to the U.S. It does not. But it is given as an option. A plan; a ‘thing’ placed calmly on the geo-political table and intended to spread fear. “Cities full of children, women, and the elderly to be killed: Not morally wrong. Not a war crime”.

No. Just the ‘reality’ that Trump takes the Iranian nuclear programme to be an existential threat to Israel. And that the U.S. is committed to using military force to eliminate existential threats to Israel.

This is the heart to Trump’s ultimatum. It owes to the fact that it is Israel – not America, and not the U.S. intelligence community – that views Iran as an existential threat. Professor Hudson, speaking with direct knowledge of the background policy (see here and here) says, “it's NOT just that Israel as we know it – must be safe and secure and free from terrorism”. That's Trump and his Team’s ‘line’; that's the Israeli and its supporters narrative too. “But the mentality [behind it] is different”, Hudson says.

There are some 2-3 million Israelis who see themselves as destined to control all of what we now call the Middle East, the Levant, what some call West Asia – and others call “Greater Israel”. These Zionists believe that they are mandated by God to take this land – and that all who oppose them are Amalek. They believe the Amalek to be consumed with an overwhelming desire to kill Jews, and who therefore should be annihilated.

The Torah records the story of Amalek: Parshat Ki Teitzei, when the Torah states, machoh timcheh et zecher Amalek—that we must erase Amalek’s memory. “Every year we [Jews] are obligated to read – not how God will destroy Amalek – but how we should destroy Amalek”. (Though many Jews puzzle how to reconcile this mitzvah with their ingrained contrarian values of compassion and mercy).

This commandment in the Torah is in fact one of the key factors that lies at the root of Israel’s obsession with Iran. Israelis perceive Iran as an Amalek tribe plotting to kill Jews. No deal, no compromise therefore is possible. It is also, of course, about Iran’s strategic challenge (albeit secular) to the Israeli state.

And what has made the Trump ultimatum so pressing in Washington’s view – apart from the China-pivot considerations – was the assassination of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. That assassination marked a big shift in U.S. thinking, because, before that, we inhabited an era of careful calculation; incremental moves up an escalator ladder. What is understood now is that ‘we're no longer playing chess’. There are no rules anymore.

Israel (Netanyahu) is going hell-for-leather on all fronts to mitigate the divisions and turmoil at home in Israel through igniting the Iranian front – even though this course might well threaten Israel’s destruction.

This latter prospect marks the reddest of ‘red lines’ to ingrained Deep State structures.

Iran warns six regional countries against aiding potential US attack: Report

Tehran has affirmed its willingness to engage in indirect negotiations with the US concerning its nuclear program

A senior Iranian official said that Tehran has warned six countries they will face "severe consequences" if they support Washington in a military attack against the Islamic Republic, Reuters reported on 6 April.

"Iran has issued warnings to Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Turkey, and Bahrain that any support for a US attack on Iran, including the use of their airspace or territory by the US military during the attack, will be considered a hostile act," the official stated while speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity.

The official stressed that such an action "would have severe consequences for those countries," adding that "Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has placed the Iranian armed forces on high alert."

Spokespersons for the governments of Iraq, Kuwait, the UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry was quoted as saying it was unaware of the Iranian warning, but that such messages could be conveyed through other channels.

On 30 March, US President Donald Trump threatened Iran with bombing and secondary tariffs if Tehran did not come to an agreement with Washington over its nuclear program.

"If they don't make a deal, there will be bombing," Trump said in a telephone interview. "It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before."

The senior official speaking with Reuters added that Iran rejects US President Donald Trump's demand for direct talks over its nuclear program. However, it wants to continue indirect negotiations through Oman, where indirect negotiations between the two countries have taken place in the past.

"Indirect talks offer a chance to evaluate Washington's seriousness about a political solution with Iran," said the official.

In addition to issuing verbal threats against Iran, Trump has ordered a major military build-up in the region, including dispatching a squadron of B-52 bombers to the US base at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed on Sunday that "the conditions for resuming talks between Tehran and Washington regarding Iran's nuclear program are based on the principle of trust between the two countries," he said.

"We are ready to continue dialogue regarding our nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions against Iran, based on the logic of confidence-building," Araghchi said in statements reported by Iran's Fars News Agency.

Following Trump's threat, Ali Hajizadeh, the commander of the Aerospace Division of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), directly threatened US bases in West Asia.

“The Americans have around ten military bases in the region – at least near Iran – and 50,000 troops,” Hajizadeh told Iranian state TV on Monday.
“It’s like they’re sitting in a glass house. And when you’re in a glass house, you don’t throw stones at others.”

Iran has long rejected claims it seeks to produce a nuclear weapon, saying such a move is un-Islamic due to the threat such weapons pose to civilians.

However, analysts suggest Iran could quickly develop nuclear weapons if US and Israeli threats to bomb and invade the country continue.

Rubio demands Iran 'walk away' from uranium enrichment, long-range missiles

Iran has insisted that its enrichment of uranium and defense capabilities are ‘non-negotiable’ in nuclear talks with the US

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio asserted on 1 May that Iran must “walk away” from both uranium enrichment and the development of long-range missiles.

“They have to walk away from sponsoring terrorists, they have to walk away from helping the Houthis (in Yemen), they have to walk away from building long-range missiles that have no purpose to exist other than having nuclear weapons, and they have to walk away from enrichment,” Rubio said in an interview with Fox News.

His comments came as the fourth round of nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington, set to take place in Rome on Saturday, were postponed.

An Iranian official cited by Reuters said a new date for the talks would be set “depending on the US approach.”

Tehran has repeatedly affirmed that both its uranium enrichment and its defense capabilities are non-negotiable in the talks with the US.

While the first few rounds of negotiations were described as somewhat positive, Washington continues to step up pressure. Tehran had said it was giving diplomacy a chance, but from the start was wary of entering negotiations under the threat of continued sanctions and a potential military attack.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened that if a nuclear deal is not reached, the US will bomb Iran in a coordinated attack carried out alongside Israel.

Trump announced on Thursday his intention to make sure all purchases of Iranian oil and petrochemical products come to an end by imposing sanctions on any country buying from Iran.

“They will not be allowed to do business with the United States of America in any way, shape, or form,” the president said.

The State Department announced on 30 April that it is “sanctioning seven entities engaged in the trade of Iranian petroleum products and petrochemical products and is identifying two vessels as blocked property.”

“The sanctions that have been declared against the Iranian and non-Iranian individuals and companies on various pretexts during the past recent days clearly illustrated the American policy-makers’ insistence on law-breaking, violation of the rights and interests of the other nations, and also their attempt to disrupt the friendly and legal relations among the developing countries through economic terrorism,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in response.

Ministry spokesman Ismail Baqaei held Washington responsible for “the destructive consequences of the paradoxical actions and provocative statements.”

Rubio’s comments and the increased tension with Iran follow recent turbulence in the US security establishment.

US media reports on 1 May revealed that Trump is expected to remove National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and one of his top deputies, Alex Wong, from their posts, allegedly over the Signalgate scandal.

According to US officials who spoke with multiple western media outlets, Waltz and Wong are expected to step down after “losing the trust” of other officials and lacking support within the White House.

In late March, Waltz added the editor of The Atlantic magazine, Jeffrey Goldberg, to a private Signal chat describing details of a deadly US attack against Yemen, resulting in a leak.

Other top officials in the unsecured chat discussing US military action against Yemen included Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Rubio, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Special Envoy to West Asia Steve Witkoff, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe.

Yemen has been under daily US bombardment since 15 March. Earlier this week, Hegseth threatened Iran over alleged military support to Yemen’s Ansarallah.

“Message to IRAN: We see your LETHAL support to The Houthis. We know exactly what you are doing. You know very well what the US Military is capable of – and you were warned. You will pay the CONSEQUENCE at the time and place of our choosing,” Hegseth said.

Iran says US 'not serious' about nuclear talks after Trump imposes new sanctions

Tehran says it is committed to reaching a 'fair agreement' despite US President Trump's announcement of secondary sanctions on firms and countries purchasing Iranian oil

News Desk

MAY 2, 2025

The Iranian Foreign Ministry affirmed on 2 May that Tehran is committed to continuing the diplomatic process and negotiations regarding its nuclear program but that it “will not accept pressure and threats that violate international law and target the rights of the Iranian people.”

In a statement, the ministry condemned the continued illegal sanctions on Iran and the “pressure on its economic partners,” viewing them as “further evidence that the United States is not serious about adopting a diplomatic approach toward Iran.”

It also stressed that the continuation of these policies “will not change Iran's firm positions in defending its legitimate rights,” and that “testing failed methods will only lead to a repetition of past failures.”

The Foreign Ministry went on to say that the Iranian negotiating delegation, during the first three rounds, attempted to “reach a fair agreement that guarantees the rights of the Iranian people, within the specified frameworks that allow Tehran to use peaceful nuclear energy.”

Tehran entered indirect negotiations with Washington following US President Donald Trump's letter to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, to “resolve a fabricated crisis through diplomacy, based on good faith,” the statement added.

The Ministry's statement came after Trump announced on Thursday that all purchases of Iranian oil or petrochemical products must stop, warning that any country or individual continuing such trade would face immediate secondary sanctions and be barred from doing business with the US.

“They will not be allowed to do business with the United States of America in any way, shape, or form,” he wrote on Truth Social on Thursday.

Secondary sanctions are a powerful tool for the US because of the size of its economy.

Trump's comments follow the postponement of the latest US talks with Iran over its nuclear program.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that the fourth round of talks, which were due to take place in Rome on Saturday, had been rescheduled at the suggestion of the Sultanate of Oman for “logistical reasons.”

Sources speaking with Al Mayadeen explained that the postponement came “against the backdrop of the conflicting positions taken by the US administration regarding the talks, and Washington's efforts to change the general framework for negotiations that had been previously agreed upon.”

In a related development, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio asserted on 1 May that Iran must “walk away” from both uranium enrichment and the development of long-range missiles.

Following leaks of fresh Israeli threats, Iran warns of retaliation to any provocation

Media reports suggest Israel is preparing to attack Iranian nuclear sites as the fifth round of talks between Iran and the US under Omani mediation continues in Rome.

May 25, 2025 by Abdul Rahman

Image
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, cautioned the international community Thursday, May 22, of Israel’s plans to attack its nuclear facilities and demanded them to take effective measures to prevent any such possibility.

Araghchi warned that in the absence of effective international measures to prevent Israel, “the Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate to forcefully respond to any transgression and will stop at nothing to protect its interests and people.”

Araghchi’s warning came in the context of fresh reports in US media about threats from Israel to Iran. Citing multiple unnamed US officials, a CNN report suggests that the chances of an Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear facilities “has gone up significantly in recent months.”

CNN also cited US officials claiming that “intercepted Israeli communications and observation of Israeli military movements” suggest it is preparing for an imminent strike against Iran despite the ongoing diplomatic engagements between Iran and the US.

Diplomatic uncertainty in US-Iran nuclear negotiations
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly claimed that his country will strike Iranian nuclear facilities if US-Iran talks do not result in the complete destruction of Iran’s nuclear program.

In the past, US President Donald Trump had claimed he would stop Israel from launching a military strike against Iran, stating that he preferred diplomacy over war.

However, he has maintained a vague position on the future of the Iranian nuclear program. He claims that the only condition for an agreement with Iran is that it should not have nuclear weapons, without commenting on Iran’s right to enrich uranium for civilian purposes.

Iran has consistently maintained that it lacks the political will to develop nuclear weapons. However, it has made it clear that having a peaceful nuclear program is its right under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and it will never give it up.

On Friday, while confirming his participation in the fifth round of talks with the US, Araghchi also reiterated his country’s position.

“Figuring out the path of a deal is not rocket science. Zero nuclear weapons=we do have a deal, zero enrichment=we do not have a deal,” Araghchi posted on X.

International community must do its duty
“Threats from the rogue Israeli regime are nothing new. But the recent leak citing US officials as divulging Israeli plans for an unlawful attack on Iran and its nuclear facilities is alarming,” Araghchi said. Adding that this “warrants immediate and serious condemnation from the UN security council and the IAEA.”

Araghchi announced that he has written a letter to the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi asking the “international community to take effective measures against the continuation of Israeli threats.”

The letter “is a serious pre-action warning. The nature, content, and extent of our actions will correspond and be proportional to preventive measures taken by these international bodies in accordance with their statutory duties and obligations,” Araghchi asserted.

Iran has repeatedly claimed that Netanyahu is trying to derail the talks with the US by dictating terms of the negotiations with Iran to it. He had asked the US to assert their diplomatic independence and stand for what is good for their people and not what is good for the “war criminal” Netanyahu.

US imposes sanctions before fifth round of talks in Rome
The fifth round of indirect US-Iran talks on Iran’s nuclear program is ongoing in Rome under Omani mediation. Araghchi, who is leading the Iranian delegation left for the meetings on Friday.

After the fourth round of talks in Muscat earlier this month, the US had reportedly submitted a written proposal for an agreement. Delegations are expected to discuss the document during the fifth round of talks.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the US imposed fresh sanctions on Iran’s construction sector. This deflates the possibilities of a deal given the fact that lifting all the sanctions imposed since May 2018 is the primary Iranian condition for the talks.

Reacting to the sanctions, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry questioned the seriousness of the US toward the talks on Friday.

“These sanctions, announced on the eve of the fifth round of Iran-US indirect talks, further put to question the American willingness & seriousness for diplomacy,” Baghaei said.

Staging for a strike? U.S. quietly moves bombers as Israel prepares to hit Iran
Originally published: MintPress News on May 22, 2025 by Robert Inlakesh (more by MintPress News) | (Posted May 26, 2025)

As threats of an Israeli strike on Iran grow louder, the United States is making quiet but unmistakable moves of its own. Over the past month, Washington has quietly repositioned strategic bombers and fighter squadrons to Diego Garcia, a remote U.S. military outpost in the Indian Ocean, squarely within striking distance of Tehran.

The official rationale is force protection. But the scale and nature of the deployments have sparked speculation that Washington is laying the groundwork for potential military involvement in an Israeli-led operation, or, at the very least, sending a message to Tehran that it won’t stand in the way.

Roughly a month ago, the U.S. Air Force deployed six B-2 Spirit bombers to Diego Garcia, a third of its active fleet of nuclear-capable stealth aircraft. These bombers, capable of flying directly from the U.S. to targets across the globe, don’t require forward deployment to be effective. Which is why their presence on a remote island in the Indian Ocean is raising eyebrows.

The B-2s have reportedly been used in prior strikes against Ansar Allah targets in Yemen, though with limited strategic effect. Following the declared conclusion of U.S. operations in Yemen, at least some of the B-2s were replaced by four B-52 strategic bombers, another long-range platform associated with show-of-force missions.

But then, additional firepower arrived. An entire squadron of F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets was flown to the base. While these jets have strike capabilities, open-source intelligence analysts suggest they were likely deployed for base defense. That assessment, if correct, underscores that the Pentagon sees Diego Garcia not just as a staging ground, but as a potential target in a broader escalation.

Meanwhile, intelligence signals point to real movement on the Israeli side. A CNN report this Tuesday cited intercepted communications and activity on the ground indicating that Israel is preparing to strike Iranian nuclear facilities. U.S. officials reportedly believe the plans are active and serious.

In April, Donald Trump remarked that Israel would “lead” any such operation. That comment was interpreted by many as a nod of support, if not a green light, from Washington. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for his part, has repeatedly warned that his government will not allow Iran to become a nuclear weapons state.

Yet even as diplomatic channels remained open, the introduction of new U.S. “red lines” appears to have derailed progress. U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff recently declared that Iran must halt all uranium enrichment, a demand not included in the original 2015 nuclear agreement, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iranian officials rejected the move outright. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated that enrichment is a sovereign right and a non-negotiable issue. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei dismissed the new U.S. conditions as “nonsense.”

And on May 22, Araghchi issued a sharper warning: Iran, he said, would take “special measures to defend its nuclear facilities” if Israeli threats continued. The statement was deliberately vague, but left little doubt that Tehran is preparing for contingencies.

In Washington, meanwhile, influential think tanks are ratcheting up pressure for a hardline approach. The Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP) has called for the complete dismantling of Iran’s enrichment infrastructure. The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) has urged more sanctions. The Atlantic Council argues the U.S. must avoid “reviving Obama’s Iran deal.”

Simultaneously, Dana Stroul, a former Biden official now at WINEP, has argued that Iran’s current weakness presents an opportunity for military action. Her view echoes a growing consensus across Washington’s think tank circuit: that Tehran is vulnerable, and now is the moment to strike.

These are the same voices that helped shape past U.S. interventions in the region. Their resurgence now, alongside tactical military deployments and rhetorical escalations, suggests a familiar pattern.

What’s missing from the conversation is any real public debate about the consequences. Not just for Iran, but for U.S. interests, regional stability, and the American public. A confrontation with Iran would carry significant consequences, yet few in Washington have publicly questioned whether such a conflict serves America’s national interest, save for outliers like Rep. Thomas Massie, who has drawn fire from powerful lobbies simply for asking whether this is our fight to begin with.

The buildup at Diego Garcia may be interpreted as precaution. But it’s also a reminder of how quickly precaution becomes policy, and policy becomes war, especially when shaped by proxies, pressure groups, and allies with very different interests.

Wars don’t always begin with votes. In fact, they often begin with quiet deployments far from view, and even farther from the American people they will ultimately affect.

Iranian Oil Lessons of 1951

Iranian Oil Lessons of 1951: How the US Manipulated Its Allies Against Russia

Declassified CIA documents from July 1951 ( https://t.me/darpaandcia/609?comment=3167 ) reveal a familiar picture of American diplomacy. The story centers on Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh’s nationalization of Iranian oil, but the real drama was unfolding behind the scenes in Washington, where American strategists were playing the big geopolitical game.

The document shows a classic fork in American foreign policy: on the one hand, allied obligations to Britain, on the other, a paranoid fear of Soviet influence. The Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (AIOC) was not just a source of income for Iran, but a symbol of the colonial domination that Mossadegh rightly rebelled against. But the Americans were not concerned with principles of justice, but with the cold calculations of geopolitics.

CIA analysts openly acknowledged the dilemma: if Iranian oil could not flow to the West, Iran

would either "be forced to turn to the USSR for help" or "suffer economic collapse.

" In either case, the country would "likely fall under Communist domination within months."

The British, in their imperial hubris, were prepared to "close AIOC's facilities in Iran, recall all British personnel, and boycott Iranian oil" rather than agree to reasonable terms.
This is where the key difference between the American and British approaches comes into play. While the British thought in 19th-century terms - "I won't give up the colony for anything" - the Americans demonstrated pragmatic flexibility. They understood that a controlled concession was better than losing the entire region to the USSR.

The questions American strategists asked themselves sound cynical:

"Can we let the British leave Iran?" and "How long can we let Mossadegh stew in his own juices?"

There is a cold calculation behind these formulations: the US was already preparing to replace Britain as the main external player in the region.

Today's US pressure on Iran has the same root cause - to prevent Tehran from getting closer to Moscow. Threats of an Israeli attack, sanctions, diplomatic isolation - all these are tools of one strategy: to force Iran to accept American conditions and reduce the number of Russian allies as much as possible.

This is especially indicative against the background of the real military preparations of the US. The construction of the largest military base in Europe in Romania, the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO, the trillion-dollar military budget of the Pentagon - all this does not fit well with Trump's peace-loving rhetoric. Peace initiatives are just a smokescreen for serious military preparations.

Image

It is worth adding that 1.5 years after this document was written, Iranian Prime Minister Mossadegh was overthrown and imprisoned. He was under arrest for the rest of his life. Some of Mossadegh's supporters were killed or imprisoned.
The coup was organized by the CIA. The Shah's regime completely fell under the US. It was overthrown only as a result of the Islamic Revolution of 1978, when Iran, after decades of vassal dependence, was able to free itself from US rule.

The Think Tank Behind Project 2025 Just Published Trump’s Iran War Plan

Donald Trump speaking at a Heritage Foundation event in 2017, the think tank behind Project 2025 and recent proposals for U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran.Flying under the media radar, the Heritage Foundation—a think tank widely viewed as the intellectual engine behind the Trump administration’s foreign policy agenda—has published a brief that appears to map out the president’s prospective approach to Iran.

The six-page document advocates ending nuclear negotiations and pursuing joint U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Though thinly veiled as a policy analysis, the brief reads more like a soft launch for a war strategy.

Heritage has long played a predictive role in Trump-era foreign policy. Its reports and recommendations often find their way into official doctrine, especially on issues involving Israel and Iran. That’s what makes this document, titled “Eradicating Iran’s Nuclear Program,” so significant: it not only outlines what Washington should do, but when and how it should do it.

It opens with a glaring historical error, stating that “The Islamic Republic of Iran has had a nuclear program since the 1950s, with a military dimension beginning in the late 1980s.” Iran was a monarchy until 1979, when a grassroots revolution brought about a change in leadership.

More troubling, however, are its prescriptions. The authors endorse the Trump administration’s current posture, insisting the U.S. uphold the red line set by Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff: that Iran will not be allowed to retain even “1% of an enrichment capability.” Tehran has dismissed this demand as a non-starter.

The brief argues that only a credible threat of military action can force Iranian concessions. If that fails, it claims, a joint Israeli-American strike is both viable and necessary. The authors recommend setting a firm end date for negotiations prior to October 25, when the JCPOA’s snapback sanctions provision is set to expire.

But experts familiar with the region have warned that strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities would, at best, delay the program temporarily and could provoke major regional blowback. In April, U.S. and Israeli military analysts stated that such action might escalate into full-scale war.

The Heritage Foundation, however, assures readers that the U.S. and Israel have the capability to “effectively end Iran’s nuclear program without significant civilian casualties” and “deter significant retaliation.”

These claims are not only unsupported but also contradicted by recent battlefield data.

The brief asserts, without evidence, that Iran’s air defenses have been “decimated.” It also claims Hezbollah has been “decapitated” and Hamas “gutted.” In reality, Israeli estimates place Hamas’s active manpower at roughly 40,000, unchanged since before October 7. Hezbollah remains operational. And Ansar Allah (Houthis) continue to launch near-daily missile strikes despite months of U.S. and allied bombardment.

This isn’t mere misanalysis. It’s narrative warfare. By portraying key regional actors as already neutralized, the Heritage brief constructs a fantasy scenario in which war appears low-cost, high-reward, and all but inevitable.

What’s most alarming is not the errors—it’s the pattern. The brief echoes talking points from pro-Israel think tanks like the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP), which recently claimed that Iran’s “current weakness” represents a “unique opportunity” to strike. Together, these voices are shaping a consensus built upon deeply flawed assumptions.

The Heritage Foundation has played a central role in shaping the policy direction of Trump’s second term, most notably through Project 2025. Viewed in that context, this Iran brief appears less like an analysis and more like a policy marker, an indication of how military strategy may be formalized in the coming months.

White House 'concerned' Israel preparing attack on Iran to upend nuclear talks: Report

Reports say US President Donald Trump recently held a ‘tense’ phone call with Netanyahu over disagreements regarding the nuclear talks

News Desk

Israel is looking to “upend” Omani-mediated nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington with a military attack against Iranian nuclear facilities, and could possibly strike quickly with “little warning,” according to sources cited by the New York Times (NYT) on 28 May.

Officials briefed on the matter told the NYT that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is “threatening to upend the talks by striking Iran’s main nuclear enrichment facilities.”

“One concern for American officials is that Israel could decide to strike Iran with little warning. US intelligence has estimated that Israel could prepare to mount an attack on Iran in as little as seven hours,” the report added.

The report comes one day after Israeli media said that US President Donald Trump held a “tense conversation” with Netanyahu on the phone. Trump reportedly insisted on his ability to achieve a diplomatic solution with Iran, and vowed that a deal would prioritize the interests of both Washington and Tel Aviv.

The NYT said on Wednesday regarding the nuclear talks that “at best there would be a declaration of some common principles.”

Following a fifth round of talks between the US and Iran last week, both sides reported a positive atmosphere. Earlier this week, Trump said there could possibly be “something good” to announce in the “next two days.”

However, US officials have publicly insisted that no deal can go through without Iran committing to the complete dismantlement of its uranium enrichment capabilities, which Tehran categorically rejects.

Trump has repeatedly stated that he wishes to avoid a military solution, but has also threatened several times that a failure in the talks would lead to US strikes on Iran – coordinated with Israel.

Israel has long been pushing for an attack on Iran, and has said that it would only accept a deal that fully dismantles Tehran’s nuclear program.

Netanyahu’s office responded to the new report by the NYT, calling it “fake news.”

One week earlier, Axios reported that Israel is betting on the collapse of nuclear talks between Washington and Tehran, and is planning to attack Iran in the event that the negotiations fail.

“Bibi is waiting for the nuclear talks to collapse and for the moment Trump will be disappointed about the negotiations and open to giving him the go-ahead,” sources told the outlet, saying that Tel Aviv is “making preparations to swiftly strike” Iranian nuclear facilities.

“The Israeli military thinks its operational window to conduct a successful strike could close soon, so Israel will have to move fast if talks fail,” they added. According to a US official cited by the outlet, Trump is concerned that Israel may even move ahead with an attack without a green light from Washington.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian visited Muscat on Tuesday for a two-day visit, including bilateral talks with Omani officials.

“Regional developments, including the US–Iran negotiations, will be part of the consultations,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei said.

According to reports, Oman has drafted a proposal to break the deadlock in US–Iran talks, and is hoping to convince Iran to accept a “temporary” halt to enrichment in exchange for gradual relief from sanctions.

I think Trump has 'had a hard-on' about Iran since 1979, when sitting in front of the tube munching Big Macs he saw the USA humiliated. As it was inconceivable to him that the US deserved it he's been nursing that grudge for 46 years. He might be concerned about his image relative to his fantastical desire for the Noble but the only thing he'll accept is Iran's total capitulation to his demands. Otherwise the bombs will fall. Everything else is preliminary theater. Careful what you wish for, Donnie...

Iran Ups Ante as Israel Chafes for Face-Saving Escalation
Simplicius
Jun 09, 2025

Israel reportedly continues to edge closer toward unilateral Iranian strikes despite all ostensible efforts by the US to pump the brakes on the clash which could spiral out of control.

Preparations for an Israeli strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities are said to be nearing completion, with the final steps, including the transfer of munitions and operational planning, currently ongoing, according to Channel 12.

Both sides are holding their cards close to their chest, signaling at times contradictory information. For instance, Iran has long held that its fatwa against nuclear weapons prevents any possibility of their construction, yet new reports continue to hint the opposite. For instance, former head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization who has been linked to the Iranian nuclear program states in a recent interview:

“We reached the capability to build nuclear weapons 15-20 years ago.”

Fereydoon Abbasi, former head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization:

– We have not yet received the orders to produce nuclear weapons. If they tell me to build it, I will do it.

– If Israel or the United States bomb our nuclear production sites, it won't affect our timetable to get a bomb.

– These days it is possible to create tactical nuclear weapons that do not fall under the category of WMDs, we can use them to destroy an Israeli military base for example.

PS: The above point implies that tactical nukes may not be included in Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei's ban on WMDs.

(Video at link.)

Listen very carefully to what he says: not only that Iran can swiftly build nukes if ordered to do so, but that any strike by the West on its facilities would have no effect because Iran has dispersed them, as well as hidden critical segments deep underground.

Some may be skeptical of this, but would be interested in Rafael Grossi’s statements in the latest FT piece:

Worse, Iran’s nuclear capabilities could not be destroyed with a single surgical strike. “The most sensitive things are half a mile underground — I have been there many times,” he says. “To get there you take a spiral tunnel down, down, down.”

Image

Charles Lister confirmed in a tweet several weeks ago that the US no longer even has the capability to take out Iran’s sites:

Image

When both sides are in agreement on the same notion, it can hardly be called propaganda or misdirection; it clearly points to Fereydoon Abbasi’s statements from the earlier video being accurate.

One analyst states:

Grossi said: “I’ve been there multiple times. To reach it, one must go deep, then deeper, and deeper still. Iran’s nuclear program cannot be destroyed by an attack.”

He’s right. The world’s most powerful bunker-buster, the GBU-57, can only penetrate 66 meters, while even the latest nuclear bomb can only impact up to 500 meters underground.

Iran has placed its IR-9 centrifuges on shock-absorber systems, capable of withstanding 6.0 Richter scale earthquakes. These sites lie deep within mountains.

Israel does not have the GBU-57; only the US does, and only B-2 bombers can carry them — 2 bombs per jet. To destroy just one Iranian site at 800m depth, the US would need to drop at least 12 bombs precisely at one spot — requiring 6 bombers per site.

Iran is believed to have at least 5 such deep nuclear sites. To destroy them all, the US would need to deploy 30 B-2 bombers, but it only has 18 total. Meaning, at least 2 Iranian sites will survive.

Moreover, Iran has not built straight shafts. After every 50 meters, tunnels twist hundreds of meters sideways before going down again — making pinpoint strikes nearly impossible. Even if the first bomb hits, the remaining 11 could hit empty ground.

In short, Iran’s underground nuclear infrastructure is now too deep, too complex, and too protected to be taken out militarily

Iran teases 'treasure trove' of sensitive Israeli nuclear documents

The announcement comes as the IAEA board is preparing to issue an 'anti-Iran' resolution at an upcoming meeting

News Desk

Iran has announced that it has obtained a “treasure trove” of highly sensitive, Israeli nuclear documents, which it says it will begin to unveil soon.

“The transfer of this treasure trove was time-consuming and required security measures. Naturally, the transfer methods will remain confidential, but the documents should be unveiled soon,” Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib told Iranian television on 8 June.

“Talking of thousands of documents would be an understatement,” Khatib went on to say. The “vast collection of strategic and sensitive [Israeli] documents” includes “plans and data on [Israel’s] nuclear facilities,” according to the intelligence minister.

“They also include other documents about the relationship with the US, Europe, and other countries, as well as intelligence documents that would boost Iran’s offense power,” Khatib said.

The intelligence operation was first announced in Iranian media on 7 June.

Sources told state broadcaster IRIB that “The sheer volume of the materials and the need to securely transfer the entire shipment into the country necessitated a period of media silence,” adding that the documents have reached “secure locations.”

IRIB said the brief marked a significant setback for Israel.

Iranian state television also mentioned the recent arrests of two Israeli citizens, Roy Mizrahi and Almog Atias, on charges of espionage for Iran. However, it emphasized that the arrests occurred after the documents had been transported out of Israel.

On Saturday, Al Mayadeen reported that the documents are “unprecedented” and “extremely accurate,” and are expected to influence regional dynamics, including ongoing Iran–US negotiations.

The announcement comes amid tension in recent nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington. Iran has rejected a new US proposal that would significantly constrain its ability to enrich uranium, and has said it will soon put forward a counteroffer.

It also comes as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) board is preparing to pass a resolution against Iran, citing a comprehensive report accusing Tehran of failing to comply with the 2015 nuclear agreement scrapped by US President Donald Trump.

The move could result in a reimposition of European sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

As the fate of nuclear talks remains unclear, reports say Israel is planning an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, which Tehran says it will respond to forcefully.

Iran did not retaliate to an Israeli attack on its air defense sites in Tehran in October 2024. The Israeli attack was a response to Iran’s launching of hundreds of ballistic missiles at Israeli military bases at the start of that month.

Israel is the world’s only unacknowledged nuclear power. Estimates of Israel's nuclear stockpile range between 80 and 400 warheads, which can be delivered via aircraft, submarine-launched cruise missiles, and the Jericho series of intermediate to intercontinental-range ballistic missiles.

Its first deliverable nuclear weapon is thought to have been completed in late 1966 or early 1967, making it the sixth country in the world to have developed them. Israel has never openly tested its nuclear weapons nor signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Tel Aviv does not acknowledge its possession of nuclear weapons.

Iran condemns fresh US sanctions

Iran claimed the proposed nuclear deal submitted May 31 by the US did not reflect the essence of the five rounds of indirect talks between the two countries.

June 09, 2025 by Abdul Rahman

On Sunday, June 9, Iran condemned a fresh round of US sanctions on its citizens and commercial entities, calling them a reflection of the US’s long-standing hostility towards the country and its people.

Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the sanctions as a flagrant violation of international laws and another attempt to deny Iranians their fundamental rights and increase their hardships.

The administration of Donald Trump issued fresh sanctions against dozens of individuals and entities in Iran on Saturday, continuing its so-called maximum pressure campaign to force Iran to abandon its nuclear program.

The sanctions targeted the individuals and entities involved in banking and other commercial activities. Some of the entities are based in Hong Kong and the UAE. The US targeted them by accusing them of being involved in “money laundering” and “shadow banking” activities for sanctioned entities, such as the National Iranian Tanker Company.

NITC is sanctioned for its involvement in the export of Iranian oil which is targeted by the US as part of its maximum pressure campaign. The US has alleged that proceeds from the oil trade are used for the development of nuclear weapons by Iran.

Iran has claimed it has every right to have a peaceful civil nuclear program as a signatory of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and denied it has any intention to develop nuclear weapons. It has termed US sanctions against it illegal and a violation of its sovereignty and demanded their immediate withdrawal.

The new sanctions were announced despite ongoing talks between Iran and the US on the nuclear issue. On May 31, the US submitted a proposal for a deal after five rounds of indirect talks.

Reflecting on the content of the US proposal, Baghaei said on Monday that it did not reflect the essence of the talks so far. He claimed that Iran is preparing its own proposal for a deal which will be submitted to the US through Oman in the coming days.

Iran has repeatedly made it clear that it will not consider any proposal for a deal if it is asked to abandon its peaceful nuclear program and sanctions imposed by the US are not lifted completely.

IAEA must not be politicized
Meanwhile, Russia warned on Sunday that any anti-Iran resolutions in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) board of governors meeting scheduled to begin on Monday will not “bring positive results.”

Russia’s permanent representative to Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, claimed that the expected anti-Iran resolution by European signatories of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) – the UK, France, and Germany in collaboration with the US – would be counterproductive for the ongoing peace efforts.

Ulyanov was referring to the reports in western media which claimed that E3 along with the US have already drafted a resolution against Iran to be presented during the IAEA meeting. The draft accuses Iran of non-compliance in its safeguard obligations for the first time in two decades.

The resolution is part of E3’s threats of invoking snapback sanctions against Iran, which were withdrawn following the signing of the JCPOA in 2015 by a resolution in the UN Security Council.

The European signatories of the JCPOA have recently been following the US line on the Iran nuclear program. In the years following the US unilateral withdrawal from the deal in May 2018, however, these nations expressed a desire to revive it.

Iran has maintained that all calls for snapback sanctions are illegal. It has asserted that its decision to gradually withdraw from its commitments under the JCPOA were based on the provisions of the agreement itself and a response to the US and E3 failing to keep their own commitments under the deal first.

Reiterating the Iranian position, spokesperson for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi said on Sunday that if others “return to their commitments [to JCPOA], we will do the same.”

Iran has warned E3 of counter measures to the imposition of snapback sanctions. On Sunday, Iran also warned the IAEA of counter measures if the said resolution was adopted, claiming such resolutions are “politically motivated” and a result of US dominance over the agency.

Israel attacked Iran. 06/13/2025
June 13, 9:57

Image

Early in the morning, Israel attacked Iran.

The use of up to 200 aircraft that dropped up to 330 bombs and missiles was declared.
A number of Iranian nuclear program facilities were hit, including the reactor in Natanz. Several nuclear physicists were killed. The facility in Fordow and the nuclear power plant in Bushehr were not damaged.
Some Iranian military facilities associated with Iran's missile and drone programs were also hit.
In addition, strikes were carried out on the accommodation of high-ranking Iranian officials - among the dead were the Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Bagheri and the commander of the IRGC Salami.
The strike was carried out with the help and support of the United States, which used, among other things, its tanker aircraft and were aware of the targets and time of the strike. Thus, the United States began to actively help Israel repel the retaliatory attack by Iranian drones.
Oil immediately rose in price by 13%.

Iran promised a retaliatory attack in the near future. We are waiting.

Some observations.

1. By allowing foreigners from the IAEA into your facilities, you are essentially giving them the opportunity to collect information for subsequent strikes against them. The IAEA (as well as the OPCW) in its current form is an instrument of the West. By the way, this also concerns us. The Koreans have not allowed anyone into their facilities, have not negotiated with anyone about their nuclear reactors, and are quietly sitting on a pile of nuclear warheads and ICBMs.

2. By placing nuclear physicists outside of protected shelters, you are making them an easy target for strikes. In light of the threat of war, they should have been moved to protected shelters first of all. There are many questions about Iran's counterintelligence, but they were there before.

3. In the modern world, giving up nuclear weapons and their delivery systems is downright suicide for a country that claims to be a subject. Readiness to use them should also be part of a gentleman's set. Without weapons and the determination to use them, you are effectively not protected from external attack. Paper treaties and so-called "international law" are a fig leaf with which the weak try to cover up their powerlessness before predators who simply ignore them before devouring them.

Among the Iranians killed are Chief of General Staff Bagheri and IRGC Chief Salami. Bagheri's death has already been officially announced.

Iran promised to respond in the near future.

The Zionist regime's adventurous and aggressive attack on a number of areas of Iran, including civilian and military facilities, at dawn on Friday resulted in the martyrdom and injury of a group of our fellow citizens, including women and children, as well as a number of commanders of the Armed Forces.

The General Staff's Communication Center, condemning this obvious crime of the vile Zionist enemy, which is contrary to all international norms, in accordance with the instructions of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, assures the valiant people of Islamic Iran: the response of the soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic to the organizers, executors and accomplices of this desperate act will be crushing and will make them regret what they have done" (c) General Staff of Iran

Iran directly accused the US of complicity in attacks on Iran and withdrew from negotiations on the nuclear deal.
On the question of whether it is possible to conduct substantive negotiations with the US.

So far, Iran has launched drones at Israel. No missile launches have been recorded yet.

Statement by the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces. There are no more restrictions.

To the heroic and revolutionary people of Islamic Iran:
The martyrdom of the commanders of the Islamic Army - Major General Mohammad Bagheri (Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces), Major General Gholamali Rashid (Commander of the Central Headquarters of Khatam al-Anbiya), Major General Hossein Salami (Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC), as well as a group of scholars and our dear fellow citizens, especially women and innocent children, as a result of the aggressive attack of the Zionist regime has once again proven to the world the terrorist nature of this evil regime.

The loss of these heirs and warriors of sacred defense is undoubtedly hard and painful, but their comrades and associates will never drop the banner of honor and glory raised by these dear martyrs, and their bright path will continue with determination and strength.
The martyrs of this terrorist attack have worn the garb of jihad and martyrdom for many years to protect the revolution and ensure the safety of the noble people of Iran, and are now enjoying closeness to Allah and their fallen comrades.

However, avenging the innocent blood of the martyrs of this attack is a mission that the Armed Forces have already taken upon themselves and will not stop until it is accomplished.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces, expressing congratulations and condolences on the martyrdom of these dear people to His Eminence the Imam of the time (may Allah hasten his advent), the Supreme Commander (may Allah prolong his shadow), the heroic people of Iran and the large family of the Armed Forces, assures: now that the terrorist Zionist regime has crossed all red lines, with the support of the Almighty and the brave people of Islamic Iran, there are no limits left in responding to this crime, and the Hand of God's retribution will grab this bloody terrorist regime and its patrons by the throat, inshallah.

Israel stated that before the strikes, a number of sabotage operations were carried out on Iranian territory against air defense facilities, command structures, control centers, etc., which hampered Iran's response to the strikes.

Israel has issued a direct ultimatum to Iran.

Now that Iran's skies are wide open and defenseless, its leaders have a decision to make: If they attack us, we will attack their refineries and destroy their economy. If they allow us to destroy their nuclear facilities without a tough response, we will leave their refineries intact.

Israel has also declared that it is ready for a full-scale war with Iran. In fact, it is already a war, where Iran has a choice between war or capitulation.

***

The new commander of the IRGC is General Ahmad Vahidi. He took office today after Salami's death.

Iranian sources report that Iran has not yet launched major retaliatory strikes on Israel and measures are only being prepared.

Only a small group of drones, up to 100 pieces, was launched in the morning (by the standards of the SVO, this is routine). Let's see how the Iranians respond. Their two main options are a ballistic and hypersonic strike on Israel's vital centers + a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

I gave Iran many chances to make a deal. I warned them vehemently to "just do it" but they failed. I told them it would be worse than they expected.
The US makes the best and deadliest weapons - Israel has plenty and more on the way.
Some Iranian hardliners talked tough but now they are all DEAD. It will get worse.
There has already been much destruction but the deal can still stop the next brutal attacks. Iran must act now to save what is left of its empire. No more deaths, no more destruction. JUST DO IT BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. (c) Trump

Trump has effectively re-voiced the ultimatum to Iran by admitting US complicity in the attack on Iran. This is about "peacemaker Trump". This is his first war in his new term. It hasn't even been half a year.

In fact, among other things, this is a direct attack by the US and its satellites on a member of BRICS and SCO. Accordingly, if you can attack a member of BRICS and SCO with impunity and give it ultimatums, why can't you do the same with others, especially those who do not have nuclear weapons.

Another reminder of why Iran should have sought to obtain nuclear weapons. As should any country that wants to survive in the modern world.

Meanwhile, Israel is again striking the nuclear facility in Natanz, despite previous statements about its destruction. The Iranian leadership said that the facility did not receive significant damage that is superficial in nature, since the facility is located at great depth and Israel was unable to completely disable it.

Colonelcassad
Statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry regarding Israeli strikes on Iranian territory

We express extreme concern about the dangerous escalation of tensions in the Middle East.

We strongly condemn the military action of the State of Israel in violation of the Charter of the United Nations and international law on the night of June 13.

Unprovoked military strikes on a sovereign UN member state, its citizens, sleeping peaceful cities, and nuclear energy infrastructure facilities are categorically unacceptable. The international community cannot afford to be indifferent to such atrocities that destroy peace and damage regional and international security.

What makes the events especially cynical is the fact that the Israeli attacks were carried out in the midst of a session of the IAEA Board of Governors and on the eve of another round of indirect contacts between representatives of Iran and the United States. Thus, the hard-won multilateral efforts to reduce confrontation and find solutions that eliminate any suspicions and prejudices regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear energy have been undermined and set back.

It is clear that West Jerusalem has made a conscious choice to further escalate tensions and raise the stakes. We have repeatedly warned about the harmfulness of military adventures that threaten stability and security in the region. Responsibility for all the consequences of this provocation will fall on the Israeli leadership.

We are closely monitoring the actions of the IAEA, which bears great responsibility in this difficult situation. The Agency’s staff, along with citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, have also found themselves under Israeli fire. We expect balanced and objective assessments of what is happening from the IAEA Director General, including a thorough analysis of the likely radiological consequences of attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran.

We also hope that the Western states that provoked anti-Iranian hysteria in the IAEA Board of Governors and once again pushed through a time-serving resolution that failed to gain universal support to satisfy their political biases and phobias will recognize the disastrous results of their destructive course and the extent of their guilt for the tragedy.

We firmly believe that no matter what explanations those who planned, developed and carried out the attack on Iran use, a settlement around the Iranian nuclear program cannot be resolved by military force and can only be achieved by peaceful, political and diplomatic means.

We hope that this approach will ultimately prevail. We call on the parties to exercise restraint in order to prevent further escalation of tensions and the region from sliding into a full-scale war.

In this regard, we would like to remind you of the US’s readiness to hold another round of negotiations with Iran on the Iranian nuclear program in Oman.

Unprovoked, Israel Risks Major War in Middle East
June 12, 2025

Israel has risked a potentially devastating conflict with Iran that could engulf the region and undermine the world economy with an unprovoked attack on nuclear facilities and Iranian leaders on Thursday, reports Joe Lauria.

By Joe Lauria
Special to Consortium News

Israel has opened the gates of hell in the Middle East.

In a thoroughly unprovoked attack on Iran, the Israeli military rained down fire on several major sites including the capital Teheran. The New York Times reported:

“The targets of the Israeli strike include nuclear facilities, air defense batteries, homes and headquarters of senior officials, weapons depots and laboratories. The first wave of the assault focused on senior officials. According to two defense officials familiar with the initial assessments of the Israeli attacks in Iran, there is increasing likelihood that Israel succeeded in killing Maj. Gen. Mohammad Bagheri, the chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces, along with several senior commanders of the Revolutionary Guards and leading scientists involved in the country’s nuclear program.”

In a statement, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States was not involved in the attack but he warned Iran not to retaliate against U.S. targets in the region:

“Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region. Israel advised us that they believe this action was necessary for its self-defense. President Trump and the Administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners. Let me be clear: Iran should not target U.S. interests or personnel.”

The United States had restrained Israel while Washington was negotiating a nuclear deal with Iran. That restraint was apparently lifted on Thursday as the negotiations with Iran had stalled.

U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy said in a statement: “Israel’s attack on Iran, clearly intended to scuttle the Trump administration’s negotiations with Iran, risks a regional war that will likely be catastrophic for America.”

Benjamin Netanyahu said in a television address:

“We struck at the heart of Iran’s nuclear enrichment program. We struck at the heart of Iran’s nuclear weaponization program. We targeted Iran’s leading nuclear scientists working on the Iranian bomb. We also struck at the heart of Iran’s ballistic missile program.”

As a justification he invoked the Holocaust, alleging that Iran could commit another one.

Israel was put in a state of emergency. Iranian officials vowed to retaliate against Israel and the latest reports indicate that Iran fired 100 drones at Israel in retaliation.

In the days leading to Israel’s attack, Iran warned that U.S. military installations in several nations in the region could be targeted. The U.S. will “receive a forceful slap” said a spokesman for Iran’s Armed Forces after Israel’s attack, and that “a retaliation attack is definite, God willingly.”

Analysts have long warned that all-out war between Israel and Iran, particularly if the U.S. becomes directly involved, could bring about catastrophic consequences to the Middle East.

The world economy could be plunged into recession if Iran shuts down the Straits of Hormuz at the mouth of the Persian Gulf from which about 30 percent of world oil supplies exit.

The attack on Iran and the risks involved demonstrate that the madness driving Israel to commit genocide in Gaza appears to have no bounds.

‘I gave Iran chance after chance’: Trump

Hebrew media reports say Washington gave Israel a ‘clear green light’ to launch a campaign against Iran

US President Donald Trump said on 13 June that he “gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal,” hours after the start of a massive Israeli bombing campaign against the country which has killed several top military leaders so far.

“I gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal. I told them, in the strongest of words, to ‘just do it,’ but no matter how hard they tried, no matter how close they got, they just couldn’t get it done,” the president said on his Truth Social platform.

“I told them it would be much worse than anything they know, anticipated, or were told, that the United States makes the best and most lethal military equipment anywhere in the World, BY FAR, and that Israel has a lot of it, with much more to come – And they know how to use it,” he added.

Trump went on to say that “Iranian hardliners” who “spoke bravely” are “all dead now, and it will only get worse.”

“There has already been great death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter, with the next already planned attacks being even more brutal, come to an end. Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire.”

In a separate post, Trump said: “Two months ago I gave Iran a 60-day ultimatum to ‘make a deal.’ They should have done it! Today is day 61. I told them what to do, but they just couldn’t get there. Now they have, perhaps, a second chance!” The post confirms reports from earlier this year that the US president had imposed a two-month deadline for a nuclear agreement to be reached.

Heavy Israeli attacks have continued across the Islamic Republic hours after Israel launched its new military operation dubbed “Lion’s Courage.”

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the assassination of its Aerospace Force chief, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, on Friday afternoon, following the killing of IRGC commander in chief Hossein Salami, Iranian army chief of staff Mohammad Bagheri, and other military leaders and nuclear scientists.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has vowed a “bitter” and “painful” response. So far, Iranian drones launched towards Israel have been intercepted over Jordan and other Arab states.

The Israeli campaign, expected to last up to several weeks, comes after Iran doubled down on its position, rejecting US demands for zero uranium enrichment in nuclear talks. A round of negotiations planned for Sunday has been cancelled.

Iran’s Natanz nuclear site has sustained significant damage as a result of the attacks, Iran has confirmed. The Fordow site has reportedly remained untouched.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday that Washington is “not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region,” warning that Tehran “should not target US interests or personnel.” Prior to the Israeli attack, Iran’s defense minister warned that US bases across the region were within its reach.

Trump had said earlier on 13 June that he was aware of the Israeli attack ahead of time, but that Washington played no part.

He confirmed that the US will defend Israel against an Iranian retaliation “if needed.”

According to Israeli officials cited by Axios, Israel has been planning the operation for eight months and received “a clear US green light."

Iran nuclear policy expert Ellie Geranmayeh told Al Jazeera that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s true objective is not dismantling Iran’s nuclear capabilities, but derailing any path toward renewed diplomacy between Tehran and Washington.

According to Israeli news outlet I24, Israel is actively pressuring Washington to join its ongoing military operation against Iran.

As Israel Attacks Iran, a U.S. Army Colonel’s Dire Warning About Israel’s Nukes is More Prescient Than Ever
Posted by Internationalist 360° on June 13, 2025

Apocalyptic right wing Zionism now runs Israel and its military. Will it launch nuclear weapons?

On June 12, Israel launched an overnight attack on Iran, killing senior military officials, targeting military infrastructure including nuclear sites, and killing civilians. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the operation, dubbed “Operation Rising Lion”, would carry on until the threat is neutralized.

The attack came as the Trump administration continued negotiations with Tehran over its nuclear program and gave conflicting statements, stating that he told Netanyahu not to strike Iran but that he believed “it could happen.”

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied U.S. involvement, though the U.S. had removed personnel from locations in the regions in anticipation of an Israeli strike and Iranian response.

The day before, U.S. Steve Witkoff spoke at a United Hatzalah gala, indicating that the U.S. is fully behind Israel.

“A nuclear Iran is an existential threat to Israel, and it is an existential threat to the United States,” Witkoff said. “We must stand together with resolve to stop it. Whatever it takes.”

While the extent of the damage to Iran’s military command structure and capabilities remain unclear, the escalation raises questions about how far Israel will go, and if it will use its secret nuclear arsenal.

A Two-Decade-Old Warning

Dr. Warner “Rocky” D. Farr, a retired U.S. army colonel whose decorated career spanned five decades, passed away on November 20, 2024.

Image

His death came amid the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza and only weeks after Iran carried out its Operation True Promise 2. The unprecedented missile salvo on Israeli military installations not only exposed the vulnerability of its air defenses,] but raised pressing concerns about a possible Israeli nuclear strike.

Now that Israel has struck Iran, apparently with U.S. foreknowledge (at the very least), while Washington pressed Tehran to curtail its nuclear program, the peril of Israel’s nukes is now in sharp relief. Iran’s intelligence services have also seized sensitive and classified information about the locations of Israel’s secret nuclear missiles, adding another layer of intrigue to this historic confrontation.

This may not have been lost on at least one high ranking U.S. government official. Director of National intelligence Tulsi Gabbard recently appeared in Hiroshima, Japan, to warn against the dangers of nuclear war and chastising “warmongers.” Though she stopped short of naming them or specifying which conflict she was referring to, it is hard to believe, in light of Israel’s attack, that her critique was not referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his most fervent supporters in the U.S..

Farr was not only considered a trailblazer in Army Special Forces and military medicine, but foresaw the danger of Israel’s undeclared nuclear weapons. In 1999, he published a review of the arsenal, commissioned by the U.S. Air Force Counterproliferation Center “to provide information and analysis to U.S. national security policy-makers and USAF officers to assist them in countering the threat posed by adversaries equipped with weapons of mass destruction.”

The paper, titled “The Third Temple’s Holy Of Holies: Israel’s Nuclear Weapons” examined the development and history of Israel’s nuclear weapons, occasions where they were nearly launched, and pointed to the obvious dangers of society and military bent on permanent occupation possessing a secret nuclear weapons program.

What is the chain of decision and control of Israel’s weapons? How susceptible are they to misuse or theft? With no open, frank, public debate on nuclear issues, there has accordingly been no debate or information on existing safeguards. This has led to accusations of “monolithic views and sinister intentions.”

Would a right wing military government decide to employ nuclear weapons recklessly? Ariel Sharon, an outspoken proponent of “Greater Israel” was quoted as saying, “Arabs may have the oil, but we have the matches.”

Could the Gush Emunim, a right wing religious organization, or others, hijack a nuclear device to “liberate” the Temple Mount for the building of the third temple? Chances are small but could increase as radicals decry the peace process. A 1997 article reviewing the Israeli Defense Force repeatedly stressed the possibilities of, and the need to guard against, a religious, right wing military coup, especially as the proportion of religious in the military increases.

If Ariel Sharon, who went on to become prime minister, or Gush Emunim (the settler movement launched in the wake of the 1973 war to establish settlements throughout the occupied Palestinian territory) seemed extreme to Farr in 1999, today’s genocidal Israel makes them look quaint and moderate.

Religious Zionists today are no longer limited to an activist movement tacitly supported by the government. Despite accounting for only 12% of Israel’s population (others estimate the proportion as high as 30%), they have taken over the government itself and all of Israel’s institutions, including the media, judiciary, and more.

While Gush Emunim established settlements in violation of Israeli law, it maintained the traditional Jewish prohibition on going to the Temple Mount – known to Muslims as the Al-Aqsa compound. The punishment for stepping foot onto the Temple Mount, according to virtually all rabbis including Israel’s Chief rabbis, is known as kareth, which means excommunication.

Image

Today, a combination of both secular and religious Zionists* are active on the holy site on a daily basis, where they openly conduct lengthy prayer sessions and nationalist demonstrations under the protection of heavily armed occupation forces. This is a recent development, unliterally imposed by Israel, in violation of the arrangement Israel had imposed in 1967 commonly referred to as the “the status quo,” the most essential aspect of which states that Jews are allowed to visit the holy site (despite Jewish religious prohibitions), but those who wish to pray be redirected to the Western Wall. While the Israeli government publicly claims there has been no change to the status quo, this transformation has gradually proceeded over a period of decades and exponentially accelerated since the October 7 attack, turning the site into what Hebrew University professor Eran Tzidkiyahu called an “open air synagogue.” At the same time, Palestinians have seen their access to the site dramatically reduced, with Israeli forces imposing age restrictions, outlawing religious groups that protest Israeli infringement, and repeatedly attacking worshippers inside the Al-Qibli mosque itself.

Even with Israel having unilaterally imposed its own control over the holy site, the Temple movements remain unsatisfied, and demand the total expulsion of all Palestinians and Muslims from the site, with the most fanatical among them calling to demolish the Dome of the Rock and construct a “third temple” in its place.

While this long-term development cannot be ignored – and is listed by Hamas as the primary reason for the October 7 attack – the most meaningful accomplishment of religious Zionism is the take-over of Israeli society’s central institution: the military.

The apocalyptic right’s ‘quiet revolution’

In Israel’s early years, religious Zionists avoided sending their sons to enlist in the military for fear its secular nature would corrupt their lifestyle. The army created hesder (arrangement) yeshivas in order to accommodate them, however those offered only shortened periods in combat and its graduates did not go on to become officers or seek careers in the military.

In 1987, Rabbis Eli Sadan and Yigal Levenstein founded the Bnei David pre-military academy in order to advance religious Zionist influence and place its soldiers into power positions occupied by secular Zionists and for careers in the military. Just 67 people signed up for its inaugural class. In 1990, religious Zionists made up around 10% of the population but contributed only 2.5% of cadets in the Israeli military officers academy. By 2005 religious Zionists accounted for 27% of military officers academy cadets. Today, according to former IDF Chief Psychologist Reuven Gal, more than 50% of cadets in the officers academy are from the religious Zionist sector. There are nearly 100 pre-army academies, primarily concentrated in the occupied territory, and nearly 50,000 alumni. More than half of the cadets in the army officers’ academy are from the religious Zionist camp, and many have reached top positions.

Bnei David’s website notes that a “total of 2500 enlistees of whom 35% served in elite units and 50% went on to become commissioned officers. More than 100 have chosen the army as their life-career and are steadily rising up the ranks of command.” Among them are Bnei David alumni including Roman Goffman, now Benjamin Netanyahu’s military secretary, and Brigadier General Yehuda Vach, the commander of the Golani brigade unit that massacred 15 paramedics and rescue workers in April, 2025.

The academy boasts of having achieved a “quiet revolution” in Israel’s armed forces, achieving precisely what Farr warned about.

While some might be tempted to see the growing threat of an Israeli nuclear strike and the growth of the Temple movements as temporally but not ideologically related, Farr notes that “Temple” was Israel’s code word for nuclear weapons.

Iran as “Amalek”

While Israel would be unlikely to deploy a nuclear bomb on Gaza because of its proximity to Israeli settlements (despite the desire of at least one Israeli member of Knesset) the same cannot be said for its willingness to target Tehran, which is approximately one thousand miles away.

According to a recent poll commissioned by Penn State University, 65% of Israelis believe the Palestinians are a modern incarnation of “Amalek” – a biblical enemy nation that personifies evil and is to be exterminated, not sparing a single infant. While the mainstreaming of this genocidal discourse accelerated after October 7, Netanyahu – who is completely secular – began to refer to Iran as Amalek in 2009. Jeffrey Goldberg described a conversation with Netanyahu.

The prime minister’s preoccupation with the Iranian nuclear program seems sincere and deeply felt. I recently asked one of his advisers to gauge for me the depth of Mr. Netanyahu’s anxiety about Iran. His answer: “Think Amalek.

With Netanyahu waging war in command of an army whose rank-and-file consists of apocalyptic right-wing zealots bent on extermination of what they believe to be the reincarnation of biblical enemies, a growing national obsession with conquest of the third holiest site in Islam, and access to an undeclared and opaque arsenal of nuclear weapons, Dr. Farr’s decades-old warning now echoes like an air-raid siren as the non-NATO world, which could only wring its hands at the livestreamed genocide in Gaza, now beholds an even greater horror: the growing threat of a nuclear holocaust, which the Israeli government, military, and most of its citizens, seem ready to unleash.

*Secular Zionism, which emerged in the 19th century, recast Judaism from a religion into a mythology to justify their nationalist goals of a “Jewish homeland.” Religious Zionism believes that Jewish nationalism is a fulfillment of God’s promise, thereby converting Zionism into a religion.

🇺🇸🇮🇱🇮🇷As warned, Trump "Negotiations" with Iran Were Cover for Major US-Israeli Strike

▪️Iran can retaliate and give US the war it desperately seeks to provoke, although will likely continue striking Iran regardless, it's out of time and all bets are off;

▪️World needs to stop "negotiating" with US and make clear any attack by obvious US proxies will be interpreted as an attack by the US itself or else the US will dismantle each nation, in detail (one at a time/strategic sequencing) - COLLECTIVE deterrence is required BEFORE US acts again;

▪️It is time for those defending Trump to wake up, speak up, and deny him the plausible deniability his administration exists solely to create - this is not what Americans voted for, HOLD THE GOVERNMENT & CORPORATIONS BEHIND THESE POLICES Responsible - but racism and delusion will likely persist or even worsen;

▪️Russia and China are next - it will not stop at Iran, the goal of striking Iran is to create the conditions to further encircle and contain Russia and China;

Yep, it was deception and CYA the whole time. In Trump's TV addled mind this is paybacks for 1979. The US doesn't want to go to war itself but would 'win' through proxies. That's worked so well in Ukraine...

Gotta wonder what happened to Iran's AD, though some reports indicate that the Zionist's aircraft loosened their missiles over Iraqi territory.

Israeli Attack Is a War Declaration: Iranian FM Araqchi

Image
Residential building attacked by Israeli missiles in Tehran, Iran, June 13, 2025. X/ @ConflictBerif

June 13, 2025 Hour: 8:38 am

He reaffirmed Iran’s inherent right to self-defense and vowed a ‘firm and proportionate’ response to the Israeli strike.
On Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi declared that Israel’s overnight attack was a declaration of war against his nation by the “most terrorist regime in the world,” which has now crossed “all red lines.”

“These coordinated actions amount to a declaration of war against the Islamic Republic of Iran and are part of Israel’s pattern of illegal and destabilizing behavior in the region, posing a grave threat to international peace and security,” said Araqchi, who reaffirmed Iran’s inherent right to self-defense and vowed a “firm and proportionate” response to the Israeli strike.

Overnight, the Israeli military struck about 100 targets in Iran, including senior military officials and nuclear scientists, as well as sensitive facilities such as the primary uranium enrichment plant in Natanz.

“This illegal and hostile act of aggression deliberately and recklessly escalates a crisis, flagrantly violating the U.N. Charter and the most fundamental norms of international law,” Araqchi said.

“The attacks targeted cities, peaceful nuclear facilities, military commanders, and civilian citizens,” the Iranian diplomat stated, adding that the strike on Natanz posed “a disturbing threat to regional and international peace and security by risking a radiological catastrophe.”

“This aggression further weakens the global non-proliferation regime and undermines the integrity of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” Araqchi added, noting that the IAEA has been monitoring the uranium enrichment facility.

The targeted killings of senior Iranian military officials and scientists in Tehran are clear examples of state terrorism. “The responsibility for these heinous crimes has been openly and arrogantly claimed by the Israeli regime’s own prime minister,” he denounced.

The Israeli attack violates “the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran, as an U.N. member state,” Araqchi asserted, but also constitutes “acts of aggression and war crimes” under the Geneva Conventions.

As a result, Araqchi called on U.N. bodies to condemn Israel’s actions “immediately and unequivocally” and take appropriate measures, while demanding the “urgent and immediate” convening of the Security Council.

Revenge From the Jugular Vein is Closer to the Zionist Regime: Iran

Image
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. X/ @Positionlive

June 13, 2025 Hour: 8:08 am

Iranian authorities described the attack as proof that Israel adheres to no international norms or laws.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Iranian government strongly condemned Israel’s military aggression carried out overnight and warned that “revenge against the Zionist regime is closer than ever.”

The Israeli nighttime operation resulted in the deaths of Iranian citizens, including generals and scientists. Tehran authorities described the attack as proof that Israel “adheres to no international norms or laws” and continues to “spread terror and incite war before the eyes of the world.”

The Iranian government denounced Western hypocrisy, accusing nations that claim to defend human rights and international law of ignoring Israeli actions.

“This cowardly nighttime operation exacerbates the diplomatic process regarding Iran’s sensitive concerns,” Iranian authorities said, pointing out that the attack as a sign of Israel’s “fear” of “Iran’s ability to persuade and defend the world.”

“Iranians have not started a war in the past 200 years. The country will not hesitate to defend itself,” the Iranian government said, noting that the Israeli aggression has united all Iranian political factions under a single objective.

“Now, all of Iran—the nation, the government, and its institutions—can shout louder than ever that the Zionists are terrorists and aggressors,” the statement declared, emphasizing that revenge and self-defense are the legitimate rights of the Persian nation, which will deliver “a decisive response to the child-killing, terrorist Zionist regime.”

“Defending our water, land, skies, children, generals, scientists, and all citizens is an inescapable responsibility,” the official statement added and justified Iran’s insistence on developing nuclear and missile capabilities.

“The world now better understands Iran’s insistence on its right to enrichment, nuclear technology, and missile power,” Tehran stated and claimed to have taken the necessary political and legal measures to ensure Israel “regrets its actions from this moment onward.”

The Iranian government vowed to avenge “each and every one of our martyrs” and to turn “the violation of Iranian national sovereignty into the unforgivable sin of the usurping Israeli regime.”

Iranian authorities also urged the United Nations Security Council to “defend its identity and existence amid the collapse of the international system.” However, they warned they would not wait for international action, citing the words of the leader of the revolution that “the mighty hand of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s armed forces will not let this stand.”

The statement concluded with a direct warning: “Revenge is near—God willing, closer than the jugular vein of the Zionist terrorists.” Iranian officials stressed that they represent “the voice of a nation and a government telling the world: We did not start this war, but Iran will write its final chapter.”

Mossad spent 'eight months' preparing surprise attack against Iran: Report

US officials reportedly gave a 'green light' for the Israeli attack, despite opposing it publicly

News Desk

JUN 13, 2025

Image
(Photo credit: Atta Kenare / AFP)

The Israeli military operation launched against Iran on 13 June, striking nuclear facilities, missile sites, and senior leadership targets follows eight months of covert planning by Israeli intelligence and military agencies, Axios reported.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the goal of the operation is to “eliminate” Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities. “This operation will continue as long as necessary, until we complete the mission,” he said.

According to Axios, the opening wave of attacks targeted around 25 nuclear scientists, killing at least two, and included the assassination of Iran’s top military leaders, including the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the military chief of staff. Residential areas in Tehran were also bombed, causing extensive damage and civilian casualties.

Israeli warplanes carried out large-scale bombing raids across Iran, while Mossad operatives on the ground allegedly conducted sabotage missions at key missile and air defense facilities.

Axios claims the strikes were prompted by a combination of factors: rising concerns over Iran’s growing missile stockpile, intelligence indicating active nuclear weaponization research, and the imminent activation of a new underground enrichment facility that Israeli intelligence deemed invulnerable to conventional airstrikes.

“This was arguably the biggest single blow to the Iranian regime since 1979,” Axios wrote, citing Israeli officials who expect the operation to last days or even weeks.

In the lead-up to the operation, Israeli forces rehearsed the strike under the guise of standard military exercises and amid ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear program.

Behind the scenes, the Israeli government claims it received tacit approval from the US, despite public opposition from US President Donald Trump. While Trump repeatedly warned that any Israeli action that could “blow up” the nuclear negotiations, two Israeli officials told Axios that Washington had in fact given Tel Aviv private approval for the attack. “We had a clear US green light,” one said.

Trump, speaking after the strikes, confirmed he had prior knowledge of the attack but claimed the US played no active role. “I gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal,” Trump claimed. “They chose confrontation.”

“There has already been great death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter, with the next already planned attacks being even more brutal, come to an end,” Trump threatened.

During the negotiations, Iran has insisted on its right under international law to enrich uranium for peaceful energy and research purposes. The US has insisted that Iran halt enrichment on its own soil, claiming the Islamic Republic seeks a nuclear weapon.

The US administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has officially distanced itself from the operation, calling it “unilateral.” However, questions remain about the extent of US logistical and intelligence support.

Israel now braces for Iranian retaliation. Tehran has vowed a severe response, threatening to target both Israeli and US military assets in the region in response to Israel’s aggression.

“The Zionist regime has committed a crime in our dear country today at dawn with its satanic, bloodstained hands. It has revealed its malicious nature even more than before by targeting residential areas,” Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei stated after the attack.

“The [Zionist] regime should anticipate a severe punishment. By God’s grace, the powerful arm of the Islamic Republic’s Armed Forces won’t let them go unpunished,” he warned.

For Sensitive Hysterical Fighters ...

... with Zionism and people from Unz Review. Here are some facts--12 hours later and with the first post strike (battle) assessment. Iranian AD did the job, here is allegedly "destroyed" nuclear complex at Natanz--not much destroyed obviously:

Image

Moreover, if there was a failure in Iran--it was a failure of security forces who cannot control border and penetration of Israeli Diversionary-Recon Groups who using good ol' ATGMs, such as in this video: (Video at link.)

Have been getting busy sabotaging whatever AD complexes they could get to on Iranian territory. In reality, with the exception of alleged killing of some Iranian generals (I stress--alleged) the whole thing amounted as always to ... episode # N-th of Santa-Barbara. Tehran, of course, is free to elect all kinds of officials who believe in all kinds of West's unicorns--this is strictly Iran's internal affair, which may explain, obviously, a large number of hostile intel assets. For some people, however, who have fewer gonads required from real men, if they will be nice to me I can offer a free subscription to Vogue and Country Living magazines--this will allow them to calm their nerves. Israel Attacks Iran.

And as you can see yourself, as it turned out--Iranian nuclear program is somehow developed inside civilian apartment complexes. But then again--it is Israel, they love killing civilians.

Or this one:

This is not to say that Israel doesn't attack actual nuclear sites, such as Natanz, it does. Well, the missiles (reportedly) in response are on the way to Israel. Marco Rubio informed that the US is not part of this strike. OK.

From cassad's Telegram account:

The idea of carrying out an operation aimed simultaneously against Iran's missile and nuclear programs, which Netanyahu called existential threats to Israel, arose after Iran struck Israel in October 2024 during a new round of escalation between the countries, Axios writes.

The military operation included not only airstrikes, but also the active work of the Mossad, which has its agents in Iran to carry out sabotage, primarily on Iranian air defense facilities.

Axios also notes that even after Donald Trump resumed negotiations with Iran on a nuclear deal, Israel continued to prepare for the operation - collecting intelligence, accumulating resources, conducting training. At the same time, Washington could not have been unaware of this.

According to the publication, the United States only pretended to be against Iran's attack. Washington's disagreement was only formal. "We had a clear green light from the United States," one of Axios's sources in the Israeli government said.
According to them, the real purpose of this publicity stunt was to mislead Iran — to create the impression that an attack was not planned and to prevent potential targets from changing their location.

In the first hours after the strikes, the Trump administration seemed to distance itself from the Israeli operation, but now we hear another statement from the owner of the White House — either Iran makes a deal on its nuclear program, or it will be even worse.

@epoddubny

Now superimpose this situation on the war in Ukraine and negotiations with the United States, when the United States also declares to gullible listeners in Moscow that it is also against attacks on Russian facilities...

Fire in the port of Bushehr after landing.
Strikes on Iranian territory continue. Since the air defense in the west of the country was disorganized and suffered losses after the first attack, counteraction to these attacks is now minimal. Iran will need time to rebuild its air defense to repel attacks.

Meanwhile, 78 civilians were killed and 329 were injured in Tehran alone.
Trump called the attack on Iran a success. To understand what kind of bastards they are negotiating with.

Iran officially announced that so far no strikes have been carried out from Iranian territory. Only Iranian proxies in Iraq have carried out attacks.

Iran has officially withdrawn from negotiations with the United States. It would be strange if it stayed there.
It would also be logical for Iran to break off any negotiations on the JCPOA, expel the IAEA from the country and firmly move towards creating nuclear weapons.

***

Colonelcassad
Mobile Internet is temporarily shut down in Iran.
In preparation for the strikes, residents are urged not to film the movement of missile launchers and air defense systems.
All civilian aircraft have been removed from Ben-Gurion Airport in anticipation of retaliatory strikes. The work of gas production platforms on the shelf has also been stopped.

Iran's total losses amounted to about 15-20 high-ranking officers killed and wounded + some personnel + up to 100 civilians killed and wounded.

Tehran has refused to negotiate with Washington and is preparing for a retaliatory strike on Israel. We are waiting for Iran's response. The "missile cities" on which Iran's missile sword rests are unlikely to have been damaged by the strikes.

***

Colonelcassad
The Iranians reported that there was a radiation leak at the Natanz facility as a result of new strikes. The area needs to be decontaminated.

As we can see, there are no problems with strikes on nuclear facilities with subsequent radiation contamination.

***

Colonelcassad
Before retaliating, Iran must resolve a number of difficult issues.

1. Re-establish a unified chain of command that has been disorganized for much of the day.
2. Ensure that it can deploy missile launchers (in addition to launching from missile cities) in the face of possible attacks from within and air strikes.
3. Identify targets commensurate with the damage incurred. Clearly, a limited strike in the style of True Promise 2 is no longer sufficient.
4. Drive enemy drones from its airspace that carry out strikes and provide targeting.
5. Determine longer-term plans for attacks on the enemy economy associated with the intensification of strikes on ships in the Red Sea and the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz.

So in any case, Iran will need some time to respond properly (it is impossible not to respond, otherwise it will be a complete loser).
Israel will at this time try to inflict additional damage on Iran by taking advantage of the ongoing disorganization of its command and control and air defense systems.

The Iranian leadership announced that:

1. Iran will continue its nuclear research despite the deaths of scientists and attacks on nuclear facilities.
2. Iran has withdrawn from the nuclear deal negotiations with the United States and will not negotiate "until further notice."

The Iranian parliament called on the country's leadership to make Iran a nuclear power in terms of possessing nuclear weapons. A logical and understandable demand.

As for the reports that Iran will conduct a nuclear test in the next 24 hours, there is no official confirmation yet.
Theoretically, Iran is close enough to assembling a bomb for testing.

But there is still a certain path from the creation of the first charge to a standard warhead. Unless someone has transferred the necessary technology to Iran for the last step. Hypersonic with a nuclear warhead can radically change the rules of the game.

Israeli sources report 7 landings in Tel Aviv. IDF calls for not publishing footage of landings around the city. Fire after landing in IDF headquarters area.

Journalists film the arrival of an Iranian hypersonic missile up close. Plus a beautiful freeze frame of an Iranian missile that penetrates Israeli air defense.

Meanwhile, Iran continues to launch missiles. The second batch has begun.

Iran also reported that it captured an Israeli pilot.

Iran's retaliatory operation is called "Severe Punishment"

According to Iranian tactics. Iran usually launches many missiles, among which are many different old ones + decoys, the purpose of which is to distract air defense and guarantee passage to modern ballistics and hypersonic targets in order to achieve guaranteed hits. They acted the same way during operations "True Promise 1" and "True Promise 2".

🚨 Statement by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps following the first missile strike on central Tel Aviv

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the

🔹In response to the aggression and criminal actions of the terrorist, bloodthirsty and child-killing Zionist regime, which attacked areas of the Islamic Republic this morning, killing senior commanders of the Armed Forces, eminent scholars and innocent citizens, especially defenseless children, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, as the protective and offensive hand of the Iranian nation, relying on the Divine power, the wise guidance of the Supreme Commander (may Allah protect him) and the unanimous support of the noble people of Iran, carried out a crushing and precise response against dozens of military installations and air bases of the occupation Zionist regime in the captured territories as part of Operation True Promise 3, under the sacred motto of “O Ali, son of Abu Talib (peace be upon him!)” on the blessed night of Ghadir.

🔹Details of the operation will be announced in a subsequent statement.

The whole planet is being kept hostage by a death cult

Pepe Escobar

June 13, 2025

It’s no wonder Washington is all in. This is now the Circus Ringmaster War.

Let’s cut to the chase. The devastating attack on Iran by the psychopathological genocidal “chosen” ethno-supremacist set up in Tel Aviv – a de facto declaration of war – was coordinated in detail with the President of the United States, Circus Ringmaster Donald Trump.

This infantilism-afflicted Narcissus Drowned in the Pool of his Own Image gave away the game, himself, in a rambling post. Selected highlights:

“I gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal”. No “deal”; actually his unilateral demands. After all, he torpedoed the original deal, the JCPOA, because it was not his “deal”.

“I told them it would be much worse than anything they know, anticipated, or were told.” The decision to strike had already been made.

“Certain Iranian hardliners spoke bravely, but (…) they are all DEAD now, and it will only get worse!” Gloating comes with the territory.

“The next already planned attacks being even more brutal.” Total alignment with the trademark Israeli “decapitation” strategy.

“Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire”. It was Persian (italics mine) Empire – but after all this is a man who doesn’t read, or study. Notice the Art of Diplomacy: Take my deal, or drop dead.

This – incandescent – decade was launched by an assassination, of Gen. Soleimani in Baghdad, as I emphasized in my 2021 book Raging Twenties. He was on a diplomatic mission. The green light personally came from then President of the United States, Donald Trump.

The mid-Raging Twenties is now hurled to the brink of a devastating war in West Asia, with global repercussions, by the serial assassination of the IRGC leadership, in Tehran, by the psycho-genocidal Zionist entity. After an elaborate kabuki of deception, the green light to Tel Aviv – go ahead and do it – also came from the President of the United States, Trump 2.0 (who claimed he was “aware’’ of the attacks).

A pre-emptive war against the BRICS

The psycho-pathological genocidal masterplan is to force Tehran to capitulate – without even putting up a fight. The preamble kabuki was masterfully executed. The indirect nuclear negotiations in Oman were taken seriously in Tehran, lulling the Iranian leadership, civilian and military, to sleep. They fell into the trap and were caught, literally, in their sleep.

Ayatollah Khamenei – who himself is in physical danger, as Israel is applying the same decapitation model it unleashed on Hezbollah – has a very tough decision to make: capitulation or total war. It will be total war – and with the U.S. as a direct participant.

The Iranian leadership – actually more the Pezeshkian presidency, crammed with proponents of an “accommodation” with the West – was induced into a false sense of security, forgetting that serial killers don’t do diplomacy.

So the price to pay now, for Iran, will be even more unbearable. Tehran will respond – assuming capabilities are still in place. In this case its oil industry runs the risk of being destroyed. It’s an open question whether two other top BRICS members alongside Iran – Russia and China -, for different reasons, will allow that to happen.

And were we about to enter this particular dangerous territory, Iran can play the ultimate card: shut down the Strait of Hormuz and collapse the global economy.

The attack on Iran, fully endorsed by the Empire of Chaos, is above all a pre-emptive attack on the BRICS energy core. It’s part and parcel of the imperial war against BRICS, especially Russia-China. Moscow and Beijing must be drawing the necessary conclusions in real time.

Iran, China and Russia are linked by interlocked strategic partnerships. Last month, I was in Iran tracking the progress of the International North South Transportation Corridor (INSTC), which links Russia, Iran and India. This is only one among a series of key strategic infrastructure projects that will solidify even more Eurasian economic connectivity. A devastating war in West Asia, and a collapsing Iran, will represent a killer blow to increased Eurasia integration.

That’s exactly what suits the Empire’s designs.

So it’s no wonder Washington is all in. This is now the Circus Ringmaster War.

A devastating response; a nuclear weapon; or capitulation

Tehran’s message is, “We did not start the war, but Iran will determine how it ends.”

The burning question is whether they still retain a significant deterrent – and offensive – capacity.

The genocidals are hitting ballistic missile storage systems at will in Iran’s northwest and even civilian Mehrabad airport in Tehran. Air defenses are nowhere to be seen. It’s immensely painful to watch.

IDF spin – nothing verified so far – claims that some missile silos and mobile complexes were destroyed even before they were placed on combat alert. Yet the fact is that the overwhelming majority of Iran’s vast arsenal of ballistic missiles is stored in deep, deep underground silos and tunnels, capable of withstanding massive air strikes and overloaded air defenses.

For the moment, Tehran is eerily silent. That makes sense, because they need, in record time, to re-establish a unified chain of command which was smashed by the attacks; make sure that missile launchers can be deployed and not be neutralized by Israeli air supremacy; reorganize the True Promise 3 operation, which was ready to go, as some of us learned in Tehran last month, but now adapted to the new situation (losses included); and plan how to deliver painful blows to Israel’s economic infrastructure.

There is no evidence that the attacks destroyed Iran’s nuclear infrastructure – which is buried deep underground. As it stands, the leadership in Tehran is learning the hard way that diplomacy – committees, letters to the UN, statements to the IAEA, ministerial meetings – all that is eviscerated when it comes to the law of the jungle.

Iranians were naïve enough to let the IAEA visit their strategic sites, when proverbial spies collected all the info they needed to facilitate Israeli strikes. The DPRK would have never fall into such a trap.

The elimination of a top figure such as Ali Shamkhani, Khamenei’s key advisor, Iran’s lead nuclear negotiator, with decades of influence across the IRGC and intelligence apparatus, is a serious blow.

Systematically erasing Iran’s military and diplomatic leadership in a matter of hours fits the rationale of smashing Khamenei’s close circle. That has started long ago with the Trump-ordered killing of Soleimani and certainly includes the mysterious death of former President Raisi and FM Abdollahian in that dodgy helicopter “accident”. It’s all about creating the conditions for regime change.

On a rare auspicious note, the IRGC let it be known, before the attacks, that they have been developing a secret technology to intensify the impact of its missiles on Israel.

We are all riders on the storm now. Once again, there’s no way out: either a devastating blow to the psycho genocidals, or Iran assembles a nuclear weapon in no time. The third option is capitulation, emasculation, and regime change.

Meanwhile, the whole planet is hostage to a lethal threat. Andrea Zhok is professor of Moral Philosophy at the University of Milan, and apart from his brilliant analyses, he wrote the preface of the Italian edition of my book Raging Twenties, published last year.

Prof. Zhok has succinctly pointed out how no political construction in modern history has amassed a toxic combination of messianic ethnic supremacism; supreme disregard for human life (everyone else, not “chosen”, is “amalek” anyway); supreme disregard for international law; and unlimited access to lethal firepower.

So what is to be done with such a voracious, out of control death cult?

Israel-Iran war

Israel-Iran war

Iran was able to respond more or less to Israel's attack yesterday during the night, after it restored the chain of command and air defense
. The 4-wave missile strikes were large-scale and quite effective, including spectacular hits on targets in the center of Tel Aviv, including the Israeli Defense Ministry.
But this is only the beginning. Israel began new strikes overnight, which are still ongoing. Attempts are underway to destroy Iranian nuclear facilities, air defense facilities, and other military targets. The Fordow facility has not been seriously damaged at the moment. The Natanz facility has received superficial damage, but the underground complex itself has survived, although it is stated that it needs to be decontaminated due to a radiation leak.

The United States has stated that it will not interfere or help Israel, pretending to have removed itself from what is happening. Although, of course, the United States has directly helped Israel, refueling its planes, providing intelligence data, and helping to shoot down Iranian missiles. A retaliatory attack from Iran can be expected in the evening. Massive missile launches are expected from the "missile cities" that have suffered virtually no serious damage (except for the ground portion of the facility in Kermanshah). The IRGC has promised thousands of missiles in the coming days.

The parties are not yet striking at the energy sector. Iran has threatened to attack Israeli energy facilities in the event of an attack on the refinery. The specter of a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is also haunting Europe.
The war has led to a significant increase in the prices of oil, gold and silver. Over the past 24 hours, Russia has received billions of dollars out of thin air due to the rise in oil prices and the revaluation of its gold and foreign exchange reserves, a significant portion of which is gold. Diplomatically, the Russian Federation is calling for an end to hostilities and negotiations.
However, Iran, through its Foreign Ministry, has stated that it has already withdrawn from negotiations on the nuclear deal with the United States and does not intend to hold back with regard to Israel.

In general, based on this story (if anyone hasn't figured it out yet), one can conclude that "Trump's peacekeeping efforts" are worthless and will lead to nothing significant - neither in the Middle East nor in Ukraine. Therefore, there is no point in hoping for deals with Trump - it is necessary to strengthen the army and the military-industrial complex and achieve the goals of the Middle East by military means. So that later they don't say again, "Oh, we wanted peace, and the Americans deceived us again," as the Iranians are doing now. Peace is not given. Peace is taken.

Iranian media say the explosions near the Tehran airport are not related to incoming flights, but to internal attacks by Zionist agents. Given that not all Israeli terrorist groups have been caught yet, such attacks may continue for some time. Some of those involved have been reported to have been arrested. In Iran, this is punishable by death. No sentimentality.

Air defense systems continue to operate in the West of Iran. Apparently, Israeli drone activity remains quite high.

Arab states assist Israel in shooting down waves of ‘Iranian drones’

Sources cited in Iranian media said Tehran has yet to launch any drones, and that a retaliation will be announced via official channels

News Desk

At least 100 drones have been fired towards Israel since the start of the Israeli attack against Iran early on 13 June, many of which have been intercepted with the help of Arab states including Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

Iran has not yet confirmed that it launched any drone attacks against Israel.

The Israeli army said early afternoon on Friday that it had “control over the situation,” and that Israel “continues to operate to intercept unmanned aerial vehicles launched from Iran towards the State of Israel.”

A source cited by Iran’s Fars news agency said the Islamic Republic “has not carried out any drone attacks so far” and the “real revenge will take place in the near future and will only be announced through official channels.”

Unconfirmed reports on Telegram said the drones may have been launched from Iraq

Earlier on 13 June, video footage on social media showed sirens blaring in the Jordanian capital Amman, due to drones en route to Israel.

The Jordanian Armed Forces announced on Friday that its Royal Air Force and air defense systems intercepted several drones that entered Jordanian airspace earlier in the day.

“We are operating at a high level of readiness to protect the skies of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,” the military said in a statement.

Israeli officials cited by Channel 12 and the Times of Israel said Israeli warplanes shot down drones over Saudi and Syrian airspace.

According to an Al-Akhbar correspondent, Iranian drones flew towards Israel over the southern Lebanese border on Friday afternoon, prompting interception attempts by the Iron Dome system.

Sirens reportedly sounded in Kiryat Shmona and other northern Israeli settlements.

The Iraqi government has issued a complaint at the UN Security Council over Israel's use of its airspace to shoot down drones. “Iraq affirms that these practices represent a flagrant violation of the country's sovereignty and a transgression of the provisions of international law and the United Nations Charter,” Iraqi state media said, adding that “Iraq demands that the Security Council assume its legal and moral responsibilities and use its powers to deter the Zionist entity and prevent it from repeating such violations.”

Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul condemned what it said was an “indiscriminate” Iranian drone attack.

No casualties have been reported from the drone attack as of yet.

Meanwhile, Tel Aviv continues to escalate its airstrikes across Iran, bombing the capital and several provinces.

At least 78 people have been killed and over 300 wounded in Tehran alone, according to Fars news agency.

The US gave the green light to Israel's attack on Iran: targets and collateral effects
June 13, 2025 , 3:36 pm .

Image
Israel attacked civilian and nuclear infrastructure in Iran with ballistic missiles (Photo: AP Photo)

Between the early morning and early morning of June 13, Israel attacked Iran, an aggressive and devastating move by any measure, a de facto declaration of war .

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the operation consisted of "striking Iran's nuclear infrastructure, its ballistic missile factories, and its military capabilities."

He promised that the operation would continue "as long as necessary" until the objectives were met and accused Tehran of deepening the militarization of its nuclear program, which, according to Zionist rhetoric, directly threatens the existence of the state occupying the Palestinian territory.

While Secretary of State Marco Rubio signaled an official US distancing himself from the attack by declaring it a "unilateral action" by Tel Aviv, President Donald Trump followed suit, endorsing the offensive and warning Iranian leaders that "more brutal attacks" were possible in the future if the prerogatives surrounding the nuclear deal were not adhered to.

Thus, the operation has been presented as a "preemptive strike," even amid negotiations surrounding a nuclear deal between the United States and Iran.

Given the events, and in words, there is a clear line between direct US support for the Israeli operation and Donald Trump's aggressive strategy, summed up by what analyst Pepe Escobar calls the "Art of Diplomacy: Take my deal or die."

Targets of the attack
The surgically attacked points by Israel in Iran, according to information provided by various media outlets, are the following:

Nuclear facility in Natanz

Multiple sites in Tehran

Oil refinery in Tabriz

Iranian military bases in the northwest of the country

Image
(Photo: Misión Verdad)

In addition, Israeli attacks targeted the following provinces in Iran:

East Azerbaijan

West Azerbaijan

Kurdistan

Kermanshah

Hamadan

Ilam

Markazi

Tehran

Khuzestan

Isfahan

Furthermore, according to various reports, Israeli intelligence has reportedly succeeded in sabotaging Iranian air defense systems.

According to official sources, the death toll from attacks on residential areas in Tehran is 78 dead and 329 wounded.

The offensive succeeded in killing, among others, the following senior Iranian military officers and nuclear scientists:

Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces

Hossein Salami, head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)

Gholam Ali Rashid, senior commander of the IRGC, chief of the central general staff of the Iranian Armed Forces

Fereydoun Abbasi, nuclear scientist, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran between 2011 and 2013.

Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, nuclear scientist.

These figures stood out for their key roles in Iran's military and nuclear sphere, which confirms that the Israeli attacks were aimed at weakening both Iran's military capability and nuclear program.

But, as devastating as the operation was in human terms, the Natanz facility—located about 300 kilometers south of Tehran— has not recorded abnormal levels of radiation. Furthermore, Israel has not yet attacked the Bushehr nuclear plant, located on the Persian Gulf coast.

Therefore, at least part of the objectives have not been achieved so far.

Green light in Washington
For its part, the United States had advance knowledge of the operation. Trump's confession at Truth Social, citing his unilateral demands and alluding to the fact that the decision to attack had already been made, is a clear indication of an alignment of interests and strategies between the Americans and the Israelis:

"I gave Iran the opportunity to reach an agreement time and again."

"I told them it would be much worse than what they knew, anticipated, or had been told" about the attacks.

"Some Iranian hardliners spoke out bravely, but (…) They're all DEAD, and it's only going to get worse!"

"Iran must reach an agreement before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian empire."

Adding to this are the reported facts, including the following published by The Washington Post : "Israeli officials said Netanyahu signed orders authorizing the attack on Monday. He spoke by phone with Trump later that day." The call most likely took place in the context of Tel Aviv's decision.

In the following days, the United States took steps to reduce its exposure to retaliation by reducing its diplomatic and military deployment in the region.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) also issued a warning on June 11 to vessels in the region:

"The UKMTO has been informed of rising tensions within the region that could lead to an escalation of military activity, which would have a direct impact on mariners. Vessels transiting the Arabian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, and the Strait of Hormuz are advised to exercise caution."

The connection and flow of information between intelligence and the foreign ministries of the United States, Israel, the United Kingdom, and other European partners provides a clear indication of the coordination surrounding the operation on Iranian territory. Diplomatic movements and maritime warnings clearly indicate that the United States had significant advance knowledge of the attacks.

Although the head of US diplomacy tried to maintain the theater of plausible deniability, Trump took it upon himself to play the role of piercing the veil as the tough guy he usually projects as an image.

Furthermore, Israel would only proceed with such an operation if it was certain that the United States and its European vassals would eventually support it, especially by taking steps to restrict Iranian retaliation.

The United States appears poised to portray itself as an actor that could no longer treat the conflict between Israel and Iran as bilateral, but rather actively engage in a combination of the stick—"more brutal attacks"—and the carrot—"let's negotiate."

If Trump's intention is to limit further escalation and leave room for new negotiations, thus resuming talks on the nuclear program, his calculations would be fraught with excessive arrogance, especially if progress was projected between the negotiating parties in Oman.

The results are clear: Iran's response, with attacks on intelligence and military centers in occupied territories (Tel Aviv and Jerusalem), points to a retaliation that could spread to other parts of the region. We shall see.

Collateral (and structural) irradiation
Furthermore, the Israeli offensive marks the final death of international law. The Russian Foreign Ministry itself points out that this action violates the UN Charter, while condemning the operation.

The United States and Israel are today the principal agents of chaos and the planned destruction of any vestige of a rules-based international order of any kind. They have even destroyed the liberality that accompanied their image, first with the ongoing genocide in Gaza and now with the existential threat to the Islamic Republic, one of the poles of the rising multipolarity.

What our analyst Diego Sequera said on the Misión Verdad Telegram channel :

“Once again, Israel is doing what essentially constitutes it as an entity and as a state: the third-rate theatrical shreds that remained of the multilateral and international order have ended up dismembering its own corpse, of course and obviously, because of the United States and its inability to find other resources to preserve control or, which is the same thing, its inability to deal with its decline in a way that places it in a more harmonious and coordinated place in the world. Trump, Rubio, telecretins like Hegseth, but also Biden, Kamala Harris, Obama, and cheerleader Ocasio Cortez are all symptoms of the fall. The same, downstream, in that self-desolate society in its spiritual fatuousness and psychic dysfunction.”

The affront can only lead to Iran retaliating in similar damage to those who seek to undermine it. This amounts not only to striking back at the political-military leadership of the occupying state but also to withdrawing from the UN nuclear institution and completely abandoning negotiations with the Americans, ceasing to abide by international law in the face of the US-Israeli threat, disrupting commercial transit in the Strait of Hormuz—through which approximately 20% of the world's oil is consumed—and further involving international actors in its sphere of influence—especially in multipolar countries—among other direct and indirect consequences.

Among the ramifications of the Zionist state's operation is, for example, the rise in crude oil prices—its highest single-day price increases in months—which also marked the recovery of Russian markets, fueling fears that West Asia is sliding toward a regional war that could cause chaos in global energy supplies.

Brent crude oil soared 13% to $78.50 a barrel at its peak.

WTI briefly rose to $86.62.

Among the growth leaders were shares of oil companies Rosneft (+5.7%) and Lokoil (+2.74%).

And the fact that oil prices are on the verge of skyrocketing, along with Russian revenues, is a nightmare both for the US strategy of stemming its decline and for pro-Israeli Europe, which, drowning in the socioeconomic abyss, continues to pile up more energy sanctions.

To the chagrin of the global majority, it is clear that with the unprovoked offensive by Israel—and, by extension, the United States—the scenario is increasingly pushed towards catastrophe.

Secret Documents Seized by Iran Expose IAEA Chief’s Close Cooperation With Israel
June 13, 2025

Thousands of sensitive documents on Israel’s nuclear program recently obtained by the Iranian intelligence reveal direct cooperation between Tel Aviv and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, against Iran.

Iran’s Arabic-language television news network al-Alam TV said in a report on Thursday that leaked documents revealed a major intelligence breakthrough against the Israeli regime.

The newly released documents show that the IAEA chief has been closely cooperating with Israeli officials and has carried out their directives and orders in full, the report said.

This raises questions over the neutrality and independence of the IAEA, it added

A recent report by the semi-official Fars news agency also said that the UN atomic agency had become a tool serving the interests of the Zionist regime.

“These documents clearly show that instead of playing a neutral role, the IAEA has become an instrument serving the objectives of the Zionist regime,” the news agency cited an informed source as saying.

The report noted that several top Iranian nuclear scientists ended up getting assassinated due to their names being disclosed by the IAEA.

The documents prove that “Iran’s official and confidential letters to the IAEA – containing sensitive information – were channeled to the espionage agencies of the Zionist regime through covert conduits,” it added.

Documents released by Iran show that IAEA chief Grossi has been completely coordinated with Israel and has been carrying out Israel's orders.

— Press TV 🔻 (@PressTV) June 12, 2025

The Islamic Republic’s Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib earlier said that the transfer of this treasure trove required security measures.

“The transfer of this treasure trove was time-consuming and required security measures. Naturally, the transfer methods will remain confidential, but the documents should be unveiled soon,” the Islamic Republic’s Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib recently told Iranian television.

“Talking of thousands of documents would be an understatement,” Khatib went on to say. The “vast collection of strategic and sensitive [Israeli] documents” includes “plans and data on [Israel’s] nuclear facilities,” according to the intelligence minister.

“They also include other documents about the relationship with the US, Europe, and other countries, as well as intelligence documents that would boost Iran’s offense power,” Khatib added.

The chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Hossein Salami, said the intel will provide Iran with an advantage in any missile attack on Israel.

Meanwhile, Tehran condemned an anti-Iran resolution at the International Atomic Energy Agency, calling it another politically-motivated use of the board of governors.

The foreign ministry and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) in a joint statement said the Islamic Republic has always stood by its commitments. It said the IAEA’s reports have time and again confirmed this.

The statement further said that Western countries undermine the IAEA’s credibility for their political ends.

It said the resolution is one-sided and has no technical or legal basis.

On Thursday, the UN nuclear watchdog approved the resolution, accusing Iran of non-compliance with the agency. The anti-Iran resolution was submitted on Tuesday by the US and the E3, namely France, the UK and Germany.

Mohammad Eslami, head of the AEOI, in remarks on Thursday, said the “anti-Iran” resolution adopted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors is aimed at pressuring Tehran into giving concessions.

Iran announced on Saturday the deaths of three other scientists in Israeli attacks, bringing to nine the number of atomic program experts killed in recent days.

Ali Bakaei Karimi, Mansour Asgari, Saeed Borji, three nuclear scientists, were killed in the terrorist attacks of the Zionist regime, Tasnim news agency reported.

With the deaths of these three people, the number of Iranian nuclear scientists who have been killed in attacks that began with Israel’s early morning strike on Friday and have continued since then has risen to nine.

So far, Iranian authorities have officially reported 78 deaths and 320 injuries, to which would have to be added 60 more people killed in an attack on a building in Tehran, according to Iranian media.

Iran responded last night with at least three missile attacks on Tel Aviv military placements and other tactical objectives, killing three and injuring 38.

An Iranian official announced that Iran will intensify its retaliatory attacks against Israel, and said it would attack the regional bases of any country trying to defend Israel, affirming its legitimate right to respond to Zionist aggression.

For his part, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations stated that Tehran reserves the right to respond decisively and proportionally to Israeli aggression, at the time, place and by any means it chooses.

At a UN Security Council meeting, Saeed Iravani condemned the Zionist regime’s acts of terrorism against Iran, stating that the Iranian response will be firm, legal and essential to restore deterrence, defend its sovereignty and uphold the principles of international law.

In addition, he thanked the support of several countries for convening the emergency session to address Israel’s illegal act of aggression against Iran.

Iranian Missile Hits HaKirya Military Base in Tel Aviv Amid Rising Tensions

June 13, 2025 Hour: 8:29 pm

Verified videos show an Iranian missile impact on Israel’s HaKirya district, home to key military and defense installations, marking a significant escalation in the Iran-Israel conflict.

Videos captured by eyewitnesses and verified by The New York Times show the impact of an Iranian missile in Tel Aviv’s HaKirya district, a key military zone housing Israel’s Ministry of Defense and the central headquarters of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). This missile strike is part of Iran’s retaliatory attacks following Israel’s recent offensive against Iranian nuclear and military sites.

The footage highlights the Marganit Tower within HaKirya, which serves as the nerve center for Israel’s military command, likened by a Fox News reporter to the U.S. Pentagon. Initial clips show missile interceptors launching, followed by a bright flash and explosion marking the incoming missile’s impact.

Iranian media and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed that the missile struck the Israeli Army headquarters and the Ministry of Defense located in HaKirya. The strike caused visible damage, with sirens blaring and smoke rising from the area.

Israel launched its first military strikes early on June 13, targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, senior military commanders, scientists, and other critical infrastructure. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the attacks as hitting “the heart of Iran’s nuclear enrichment program and weapons efforts.”

In response, Iran’s air defenses repelled Israeli attacks and launched over 100 drones and ballistic missiles toward Israeli territory. While Israel’s Iron Dome intercepted many projectiles, some missiles penetrated defenses over Tel Aviv, as confirmed by videos circulating on social media showing explosions and missile trails.

Iran Could Use Oil To Urge The U.S. To Sue For Peace

The primary targets of Israel's attack on Iran do not seem to be nuclear research and production facilities. People in the top positions of Iran's military forces, top scientists of Iran's nuclear program and political leaders seem to have been the primary aim.

Two dozen high ranking officers, including the chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, General Mohammad Bagheri, and the commander of the IRGC’s Aerospace Force, Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, were killed in targeted attacks. Several leading scientist were killed over night when Israel bombed the civilian buildings they were living in.

Iran's main nuclear enrichment facilities are buried underground near Natanz and Fordow. Satellite images show only light damage on above ground facilities in Natanz. Fordow seems to have not been attacked at all. There were attacks on some of Iran's ballistic missile facilities. There are no reports yet of the level of damage they received.

Curiously there were no signs of any active air defenses. Israel seems to have disabled them by other means than open warfare.

Israeli sources claimed that Iran had retaliated by launching a hundred drones against Israel. There were however no observations of any drone. Iranian sources say that none had been launched (yet).

The attacks so far seem to be aimed more at regime change than on nuclear facilities. The few strikes on nuclear infrastructure are just enough for Israel to claim this as an act of preemptive self-defense.

A preemptive self defense is legal under international law. But it requires that the threat is "instant", "overwhelming" and "imminent" leaving "no time for deliberation". None of these conditions existed when Israel launched its attack. The war it launched is thus an act of aggression and illegal under international law.

Israel has planned for the campaign to continued for at least two weeks:

Israel's operation against Iran's nuclear program, military leadership and arsenal of missiles is nowhere near over, with Israel having planned out 14 days of operations, a senior Israeli official said.
The likely duration of the campaign fits with analysts' expectations that a single wave of strikes wouldn't be able to do enough damage to Iran's nuclear program and Israel's comprehensive approach of attacking Iran's facilities, leadership and arsenal at the same time to limit the possibility of a retaliatory strike.

The pattern is similar to the one Israel deployed against Lebanese militia and Iranian ally Hezbollah—decapitating its leadership, degrading its arsenal and pushing it to a settlement. The current conflict could similarly end in a negotiated deal, the official said.

Iran has only two viable ways to respond to the attack. One is, as Scott Ritter lays out, an overwhelming destructive strike on Israel itself. This must be sufficiently hard for Israel that it will ask the U.S. to negotiate an end to the war. This would however risk nuclear strikes by Israel on Iran.

Another potential is to retaliated against the power behind Israel which conspired with it to launch the attack. There are U.S. targets in the Middle East which Iran could easily strike at. But the response from the U.S. would be an air and missile war that would overwhelm any defenses Iran has left.

A more reasonable attack on the U.S. will target its economy. Iran can stop its production of oil. It has various means to stop oil and gas production in U.S. allied countries situated in its neighborhood. It can close down the Strait of Hormuz through which 25% of the global hydrocarbon productions is flowing. There is the little the U.S. could do to prevent Iran from sustaining such a blockade.

As I have stated previously:

Trump wants lower oil prices and freedom to pursue his domestic agenda.

A few month of oil prices above $200 per barrel would devastated the chances for Republicans to keep the House and the Senate. It would ruin Trump's presidency. The would turn the world against Israel. Trump would be forced to sue for peace with Iran.

There would be strong collateral damage in the global economy. Iran would be blamed for it. But everyone would also know that it was not Iran or its leader who started this.

Lies Used To Justify War On Iraq Get Reused To Wage War On Iran
Former CIA officer Larry Johnson opines:

I believe that Israel’s attack was part of a planned international intelligence and military operation, which included the participation and support of the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany. We got the first clue on May 31, when a UN watchdog issued two reports designed to create a narrative that Iran is a rogue nuclear state:
...
This tactic was employed in 2002/2003 to gin up a justification to attack Iraq, who the US insisted had weapons of mass destruction. We now know it was a lie, but the propaganda was effective in producing support in the US and Europe to invade Iraq. We’re seeing a similar effort today, only this time Iran is being falsely accused of enriching uranium to build a bomb. The Iraq WMD lie, like the current calumny against Iran, only has one purpose… justify military action in order to achieve regime change.

I have previously detailed the current IAEA operation to blame Iran over some alleged nuclear contamination which were found more than two decades ago.

During the build-up to the 2003 war on Iraq there was another lie that famously used to 'justify' the attack.

It was alleged that Iraq's leader Saddam Hussein was in cahoots with al-Qaeda, a terrorist group that had been created by the U.S. in Pakistan to fight against the Soviet supported government of Afghanistan.

Al-Qaeda was alleged to have committed attacks in the U.S. on 9/11 2001. Associating Iraq, which had fought against al-Qaeda inspired groups, with al-Qaeda itself was the second most cited lie used to justify the U.S. war on Iraq.

It is no wonder than that a similar narrative is now suddenly being build with regards to Iran.

David Ignatius, the unofficial CIA spokesman at the Washington Post, was told to publish this nonsense (archived):

But Iran has other means to hit back. One that has received little attention is its relationship with al-Qaeda affiliates. According to former U.S. counterterrorism officials, Tehran has built good relations with the new “de facto” al-Qaeda “emir,” Saif al-Adel, who took over in 2023 after Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed. These former officials say Adel helped manage WMD planning for Osama bin Laden.
The al-Qaeda affiliate in Yemen may pose a special danger. It’s headed by Saad bin Atef al-Awlaki, who posted a chilling video this month threatening U.S. officials. “Go after the scum of the earth and its greatest criminals,” he urged his followers, naming Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and former DOGE chief Elon Musk. “There are no red lines after all that has been happening to our people in Gaza,” he said. According to the Jerusalem Post, Awlaki urged Muslims in Europe and America to make sure there is “not a single safe place” for Jews.

Who would be those "former U.S. counterterrorism officials"? Mike Pompeo, John Bolton, or some other notorious liars?

Saif al-Adel, the "de facto" never declared leader of Al-Qaeda has since 2001 been rumored to be in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, Egypt and Iran where he allegedly was once under house arrest and later exchanged against Iranian hostages held by al-Qaeda in Yemen.

Over more than two decades the Shia Iran has fought the Sunni al-Qaeda wherever it could. Its operations against Sunni extremist in Iraq and Syria were largely wars against al-Qaeda affiliated forces. In Yemen Iran is allied with the Houthi who are fighting against U.S. supported al-Qaeda aligned groups in the south of the country. A similar situation exists in Lebanon where Iran supported Hizbullah forces have for years feuded against al-Qaeda aligned radicals.

To claim that Iran is now somehow in cahoots with Saif al-Adel, an alleged but never declared leader of a more or less extinct al-Qaeda, is blatant nonsense.

David Ignatius is a much read 'opinion leader'. That he was told to trot out those nonsensical claims is a signal for others to pick up on them.

We can now expect lots of other second rated opinion writers to come up with similar tales.

It is, like the attempt to associated Iran with weapons of mass destruction, a narrative that will be used to further escalate the current regime change war on Iran.

Well 'b', the top of the list of "notorious liars" is Trump. To think he is some kind of honest broker is just plain sad. He's been blowing smoke about wanting peace with Iran since Day 1. The interspersed threats should have made it obvious. It's a set piece.

All of that nonsense about him being 'transactional' is for the commentariat. Trump's idea of negotiation is the same as Zelensky, "capitulate or else!"

I guess when this goes south on him he'll double down on his racist domestic war.
